Lock Up the Over on Carolina
Cam Newton is ready to return as one of the most dangerous signal callers on the planet. Fans will see a marked improvement from Superman whose 2016 season was his kryptonite after watching his team fall from Super Bowl runner-ups to NFC South cellar dwellers. Newton has added beef and protection to his offensive line with Matt Kalil and Mike Adams who will be instrumental in helping the Panthers assert their ground game which will set up Newton's passing attack. Despite the fact that the Panthers have two division games with the Super Bowl runner-up Atlanta Falcons and one against the world champion New England Patriots, Carolina's 2017 schedule is ranked 16th in terms of strength of schedule with opponents owning a 50.4 average win percentage in 2016.
Carolina will have the good fortune of opening their season against the dismal 49'ers and will face other lightweights like Buffalo, Chicago and the New York Jets which gives them four wins right there. In addition, the Panthers will not play any cold weather games in December which should bode well for this warm weather club. The oddsmakers are offering the Cats at nine wins on the season and I believe that will be an easy mark to hit for a team that has learned the hard way how easy it is to fall from grace in the NFL. Include Carolina over 9 (-120) in your NFL picks for the upcoming season.
