The NFL season continues to click along and if you have been following this article and making teaser bets for NFL picks, you undoubtedly have won and been beating the NFL betting odds.
The sportsbooks finally had a losing week according to sources and it could have been a lot worse. Internet reports had more money bet on the three Thanksgiving Day games than all nine of the 1:00 ET games on Sunday. The books took a bath with heavy action in terms of dollars on Detroit and Carolina, but were bailed out by Green Bay losing. Sunday was more of the same and capped off with Denver's stunning OT victory. Monday's crazy ending saved the books with Baltimore winning, but they still finished in the red.
Let's move ahead to NFL teasers, as football handicappers like myself use teasers more frequently to be on the right side of key numbers to build an edge. While I present a four-team teaser weekly, break these out into two or three-team teasers, which increases your chances of winning, as I have actually been correct overall on 33 of 47 choices. (One Push)
Chicago -1 Teaser Odds
With a victory, the Chicago Bears even their record at 6-6 and can start to think about their playoff potential in the NFC, which would have not been on anyone's mind back in August. Chicago is playing solid fundamental football on offense and defense and take on a San Francisco squad that is 0-5 SU on the road and is dead last in points allowed at 35.2 per contest. For what success Chicago has put together, they are only 1-4 SU at Soldier Field, thus, having the ability to only give the 49ers one point on a teaser is a huge plus. The Niners played Arizona tough last week but lost turnover battle 2-0 and in their next outing if they were minus-two or greater in turnover margin, they have lost by 12.7 points a game.
Carolina -1 Teaser Odds
I have sneaky suspicion New Orleans is going to play well this week at home against unbeaten Carolina. I have been riding the Panthers for weeks against the spread, but will take this week off and take them for teaser instead. Being in a position where we just have to win the game and under the key number of three can be extremely important. While I first hesitated even at this for NFL picks, when my research uncovered Carolina is 24-2 against a teaser line as a favorite in a 6-point teaser and 15-0 against a teaser line when the number is +0.5 to -5.5 the last three seasons, it became too good to pass up.
N.Y. Giants +8.5 Teaser Odds
The New York Giants were sleep-playing at Washington for close to 50 minutes and it cost them in loss to fall to 5-6. There New York counterparts, the Jets, had no problem handling Miami 38-20. I'm assuming mostly New Yorker's who prefer the color green started betting the Jets with authority, lifting them to -2.5 point favorites. This to me is like a bonus because the oddmakers original release of a Pick is more indicative of the two teams abilities and we fly over the important number of seven with this adjustment. Consider this information for this teaser action. When teams like the Jets are scoring 23 to 27 points a game and are off two Over's, facing opponent who concedes 23-27 PPG and the line is +3 to -3, clubs like Gang Green are 6-20 ATS the last five years, losing by 4.5 PPG.
Denver +2 Teaser Odds
Denver has put together two very good wins with Brock Osweiler at the controls. Suddenly, Denver has a running game and Osweiler has been as cool as the other side of the pillow (thanks Stuart Scott). Though it is an AFC West division battle, I could see the Broncos being a bit flat after big New England affair, which is why taking them as an underdog makes sense on teaser line as a buffer. It's not like Denver does not know how to beat the Chargers, having done so eight straight times. With San Diego strictly a passing team with no running offense to speak of, the Broncos are 112-21 against a teaser line when they allow less than 75 rushing yards.
