The CFL 2014 regular season closes in on the halfway point this week and the gap between the West and East Division continues to grow. All five teams in the West have winning records both straight-up and against the spread while all four teams in the East remain well below .500 on the year both SU and ATS.

After nailing both picks last week to cash-in on my Week 9 CFL Two-Team Parlay, I am ready to release this week’s two selections based on the betting trends and CFL betting odds as provided by 5Dimes.

Game 1
Ottawa RedBlacks vs. Montreal Alouettes
Pointspread: Montreal -3
Total Line: 48

Betting Preview
The RedBlacks have looked like an expansion team with just one SU win against seven losses (2-6 ATS), but they have a decent shot at doubling their win total on the year in their first meeting of the season against Montreal. Ottawa’s lone victory was an 18-17 Week 3 squeaker over Toronto as a one-point home underdog and in its only other East Division game it lost to Hamilton by 10 points as a 6.5-point road underdog in Week 4.

The common thread between these two teams other than the Alouettes 1-7 mark SU and a 2-6 record ATS is the inability to score points. Montreal has tallied a grand total of just 125 points in its first seven games and Ottawa comes in with one more point in its first seven outings (126). Quarterback problems have plagued the Alouettes this season and there does not appear to be anyone on the roster that is capable of turning things around.

Betting Trends
Ottawa is 1-4 against the spread in its last five games and 0-4 ATS in four road games this year. The total has stayed UNDER in its last two games.

Montreal is 5-11 ATS in its last 16 home games and total has stayed UNDER in its last five division games.

It will be the first meeting between these two teams this year.

Betting Prediction
It is hard to say which of these teams will come out on top this Friday night. The one thing I do know for sure is that the total is going to stay UNDER in this game as both offenses will continue to struggle to effectively move the ball and find the end zone, so I will advise you to make it your football pick on this parlay.

Game 2
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders
Pointspread: Saskatchewan – 5.5
Total Line: 47

Betting Preview
The Blue Bombers made the switch to the West Division this season and the change appears to have done them good after winning just three games in 2013. They snapped a two-game skid both SU and ATS last week with a 24-16 victory over Montreal as 7.5-point home favorites. Drew Willy struggled at quarterback by going 14-for-23 for 200 yards and an interception and the offense needed a 16-point fourth quarter rally to steal the win.

Defending Grey Cup Champ Saskatchewan ran its current winning streak to 5-0 SU (4-1 ATS) with a 20-16 grinder over BC as a 2.5-point road underdog after getting off to a 1-2 start both SU and ATS. Quarterback Darian Durant is completing just above 60.1 percent of his passes with five interceptions vs. seven touchdown throws, but the Roughriders’ defense has led the way by holding opposing teams to just 18.9 PPG.

Betting Trends
Winnipeg is 0-6-1 ATS in its last seven games against teams with a SU winning record and it is 5-13-1 ATS in its last 19 games following a SU win. The total has stayed UNDER in five of its last six games against a team with a winning record SU.

Saskatchewan is 6-0-2 ATS in its last eight games against a team with a SU winning record and 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine games following a SU win. The total has stayed UNDER in its last four home games.

The Roughriders took the early edge in this season’s series with a 23-17 victory in Week 7 as three-point road favorites to improve to 6-1 SU (5-2 ATS) in the last seven meetings. The total in this series has stayed UNDER in three of the last four Canadian Football games.

Betting Prediction
This matchup would be another good candidate for a play on the UNDER in the CFL Odds, but I am going to lay the points and take Edmonton to cover at home. The Blue Bombers are a much better team than last season, but Saskatchewan continues to roll with a victory that covers the 5.5-point spread this upcoming Sunday.
