Sportsbooks suggest it's going be a tough season for first-year head coach Sean McDermott and the Buffalo Bills. Odds for a Super Bowl LII victory are +10000. Here's a look at the team's 2017 schedule, and it's an intimidating one.

Sean McDermott is facing the NFL’s fifth-toughest schedule on paper in his first season as head coach for the Buffalo Bills -- that’s if you add up wins from last year. Opponents combined to go 143-112-1 in 2016. In addition to McDermott’s inexperience, this news puts a damper on the team’s playoff aspirations. Only two franchises (Falcons, Seahawks) made the postseason in 2016 entering the year with one of the eight-hardest schedules when utilizing prior winning percentages.

Buffalo has just one 9-win season (2014) or better since 2004 and hasn't made the playoffs since 1999, the NFL's longest drought. To put future scheduling into perspective, the team is 34-72 SU in this span when squaring off against an opponent with a positive average margin of victory from the previous season. The Bills face nine foes in 2017 having achieved this feat.

The weaknesses for the Bills are glaring. The team is desperate for play-making wideouts after losing WRs Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin in free agency. Moreover, it’s a make-or-break year for Tyrod Taylor under center, his third in the NFL. McDermott is a defensive guy, so if the team is going to make progress, it will likely be on this side of the ball. The unit lacks serious depth -- and some may argue talent -- in the secondary, however, after losing top cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the Patriots in free agency.

NFL oddsmakers don’t believe the Bills have much of a shot of winning anything. Top-rated online sportsbook 5Dimes lists Buffalo at +3700 odds to claim the AFC championship. Only the Jets (+7500) and Browns (+10000) have higher lines in the conference. The team is sixth from the bottom in Super Bowl LII choices at a whopping +10000 odds.
