The Seahawks are coming off a decisive road win over the 49ers while the Cowboys' woes continued last week against the Giants. Dallas is in the midst of a four-game shame spiral but are the NFL odds makers giving them enough of a head start to make them a viable choice in our NFL picks?

Seattle Seahawks (3-4 SU, 2-4-1 ATS)
Seattle had an extra three days to rest as they thumped the Niners on Thursday night of last week 20-3 in San Francisco. The Seahawks won their first road game of the season and Marshawn Lynch was in vintage form chewing up 123 yards and a trip into the endzone. Russell Wilson ended the day with 18-of-24 passing for 235 yards including a passing touchdown and a pair of picks. But the offensive line struggled yet again allowing five sacks and now has a league leading 31 on the season. If the Wilson doesn't get better protection he could very well wind up on the DL which would be disastrous for a team that already has as many losses as some believed they would incur have at the end of the regular season.

The Seattle defense was as good as ever limiting Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick to only 124 yards and held the San Francisco ground attack to just 61 yards. In addition, the Seahawks chased Kaepernick throughout the afternoon and had six sacks on the day. Richard Sherman shut down San Francisco's most lethal receiving weapon Torrey Smith and the Seattle defense now ranks 5th in points allowed averaging just 18.3 points per game.

Dallas Cowboys (2-4 SU, 1-5 ATS)
Matt Cassel took the reins of the Dallas offense from Brandon Weeden and tossed three interceptions to go along with one passing TD and 227 yards on the afternoon in what proved to be a 27-20 loss to the New York Giants. Darren McFadden was a definite bright spot rushing for 152 yards and a plunge into the endzone. Stalwart veteran tight end Jason Witten caught six of eight passes thrown his way for 73 yards receiving.

The NFL odds makers gave the Cowboys a three point head start against the home team Giants but it was not enough - again. The Dallas Cowboys have disappointed those who have included them in their NFL picks by going 1-5 against the number. To make matters worse it appears as though Dallas's starting tailback Joseph Randle will be suspended after a domestic violence incident in which he was legally cleared last April will still be hung over his head by the NFL who has the power to issue sanctions even if the law decides not to do the same.

Betting Outlook
The Seattle Seahawks will be a public play for sure. They seem to be getting their mojo back on defense while the Cowboys continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Matt Cassel appeared to try to do too much against the Giants last week after sitting on the sidelines in Buffalo before he was dealt to the Cowboys. Cassel is a solid quarterback as long as he plays within a system and doesn't try to be Superman. That was clearly not the case on Sunday as he made several poor decisions which contributed mightily to the Cowboys losing the game.

This should be a low scoring affair but I don't see the Seahawks running away with this one. It would be easy to envision the Seahawks manhandling Dallas after the way they dispatched San Francisco last week but the Niners are a mess. Dallas is a mess too but have more talent even without superstars Dez Bryant and Tony Romo. Though Dallas has lost all four games since Romo went down they could have actually won three of them which is why I think they are being overlooked here. Here are a few reasons why we have a strong lean on the home dog.

The Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0.

The Seahawks are 0-6 ATS in their last six games in Week 8.

The Seahawks are 0-4 ATS in their last four games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.

Seattle is 1-3 ATS on the road this season.
