Week 3 of the NFL preseason kicks off with a bang on Thursday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers head to the east side to play their in-state rivals. The NFL Odds just released for this game favor the Philadelphia Eagles -3, with a large total of 50 points.

High-Powered Offenses
This line opened late Monday morning at around 46 points. However once more sportsbooks started releasing their NFL Odds, the total quickly shot up four points to 50. Some books are still hovering around 49 points, but either way both the books and the early line movers think this will be a higher scoring game.

While no word has been released as of Monday afternoon, both team’s starters will likely get some extended run in this game. In Week 2 the Eagles lost even though they played somewhat well, while the Steelers won a low scoring game against the Bills.

However Week 3 is the dress rehearsal for the regular season, and both teams will be trying for the win. It would not surprise me if both starting quarterbacks got 20-25 pass attempts in the time they are in the game, and if it comes down to a shoot out, the ability to stop the other team is what will end up winning the game. If it comes down to defense, the Steelers might actually be a pretty good NFL betting value.

Dress Rehearsal
The Eagles are winless so far this preseason, but all indications point toward them trying to win this game. They were tied with the Patriots three different times during the game last week, however they let up in the second half. So far as head coach of the Eagles, Chip Kelly is only 2-4 SU, and the Eagles have lost their last three preseason games under his leadership.

This doesn’t mean a whole lot, but when compared to Mike Tomlin, it brings another layer into the fold. Tomlin has won and lost a preseason game this season, however in Week 3, the Steelers are 5-2 SU under Tomlin. He seems to own the second half of the preseason, because in Weeks 3 and 4, Tomlin is a combined 11-3 SU in his career.

The Sharp Pick
The Eagles’ offense is going to be good again, however the far more underrated offense among this pair are Pittsburgh Steelers. Even with the loss of Emmanuel Sanders, the Steelers are still going to be a tough unit. The starters looked good last week against the Bills. Ben Roethlisberger threw for two touchdowns, including a 76-yard catch and run reception to Antonio Brown.

So far this preseason the Eagles’ defense has given up a total of 76 points. While there have been plenty of guys that won’t even be on NFL rosters contributing to that statistic, they have not looked great on defense. Last season Philadelphia Eagles gave up nearly 290 passing yards per game. In Week 1 of the preseason the Eagles gave up 399 passing yards to the Bears, and last week they gave up 250 rushing yards to the Patriots. Once way or another, the Steelers are going to be able to move the ball on the Eagles’ defense, and it should lead to them covering their NFL Odds in Week 3.
