It hasn’t been the easiest season for the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, but the sharps are pounding them as small road faves on the early Week 9 NFL odds board.

Free NFL Pick: Lions -130Best Line Offered: Heritage

It seemed like a reasonable NFL pick at the time. The Miami Dolphins were 3-point road dogs against the wounded Baltimore Ravens last Thursday, and Matt Moore was coming in to replace Jay Cutler at quarterback. Moore has outperformed Cutler in the past, but he didn’t get the job done this time as the Dolphins lost 40-0. Holy snood.

Looks like the sharps have seen enough. The first lines are up on the Week 9 NFL odds board, and according to the expanded consensus reports here at Sportsbook Review, almost all the early money is on the Oakland Raiders for their game against Miami on Sunday Night Football (8:30 p.m. ET, NBC). The Raiders opened as 2.5-point road faves and are already hitting –3 at multiple sportsbooks. It’s a feeding frenzy out there.

You Screwed Brett

It’s a similar situation for Monday night’s game (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. Bettors aren’t impressed with Brett Hundley’s peformance in place of injured QB Aaron Rodgers; even though the Packers are coming off a bye week, just about everyone is on Detroit as a 2.5-point road chalk, after this matchup opened as a pick’em.

So which one of these small away faves should we put in our Week 9 NFL picks? The computer projections are going to be off-kilter trying to capture the impact of these injuries, but at least Moore has played competent football in years past. Hundley is a largely unknown commodity at the NFL level. He has almost two complete games under his belt; Green Bay lost both, SU and ATS.

The Raiders might have a little extra sauce this week. They were 12-4 ATS in road games under head coach Jack Del Rio coming into the 2017 campaign, but they’re 1-3 ATS this year after losing 34-14 to the Buffalo Bills (–2). Good thing we steered clear of that one. Let’s stick with the Lions this week; they’re still available at -130 on the money line as we go to press, which is closer to –2 according to the NFL numbers at Wizard of Odds. Shop smart.
