Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans set up an AFC South clash on Sunday, week 8 NFL betting. The NFL betting lines have been hopping as action comes down the wire. Find out where the value NFL picks are to be had.

Houston Texans (3-4, 1-3 away)
The Texans slipped to 3-4 on Monday night following a 30-24 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite falling below .500 in week 7 NFL betting, the Texans have been exceeding expectations on the season thus far. Not many NFL bettors were on the Texans bandwagon after an abysmal 2013-2014 NFL season in which they deposited a 2-14 SU account. Some have climbed on board since the positive start to the season, a run of form that saw them go 2-1 SU, thereby matching their winning output of the previous season in the first three weeks. Although they have only one win in their last four games, a run of form that includes a three-game losing streak ahead of their AFC South clash with the Titans, the positive takeaway for NFL bettors is they played well in spite of the losses, particularly they played both the Cowboys and Colts – two of the in-form teams going into week 8 NFL betting – close and had opportunities to win.  As such, sportsbooks are looking rather favourably on the plucky Texans and so are NFL bettors on their NFL picks.

The NFL odds on this matchup opened with the Texans installed as the 1-point favourites early in the week. That line was so obviously catnip to Texans backers because it has since moved as high as 3-points to the Texans. Has this line moved enough to attract bets on the home underdogs? The resounding answer is no, simply because there isn’t a whole to recommend the Titans at the moment.

Tennessee Titans (2-5, 1-2 home)
The Tennessee Titans are off to a dreadful 2-5 start on the season. Following a shock opening victory over the Chiefs, which sent seismic shockwaves through sports betting circles, the Titans dropped four in a row to Dallas, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Cleveland. A soft spot in the schedule, games against the season’s stragglers Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Redskins, offered the Titans an opportunity to recover, but they only managed to capitalise on one of those opportunities when they beat the Jaguars 16-14 at home. Most recently, they are after a narrow 19-17 loss in the nation’s capital, despite Redskins relying on third-string quarterback Colt McCoy after benching Kirk Cousins. Hardly a ringing endorsement of the Titans, is it? Hence, there is a sense of disenfranchisement in NFL betting circles and their disadvantaged NFL odds across online sportsbooks platforms.

Texans -3.0 vs. Titans +3.0
The Titans have been outscored 121-172 (minus 51-point differential). They are without Jake Locker, and second-string quarterback Charlie Whitehurst has proved ineffective as a backup. Titans are now turning to Zach Mettenberger under centre, a quarterback making his career first start against, arguably, one of the most effective defenses in the league.  Brian Cushing leads the Texans with 50 tackles while J.J. Watt (five sacks) is a monster, one of the best in the game today on the defensive side of the ball, and largely down to his formidable presence the Texans are top in forcing turnovers. The news that Jadeveon Clowney could return on Sunday only adds to the Texans’ value in NFL betting markets and the sense that the Titans are going to be thoroughly outmatched in this game.

On the offensive side of the ball, Arian Foster continues to impress. He’s scored at least one touchdown in the Texans’ last three games and he leads the Houston Texans with 615 rushing yards (which also puts him amongst the best in the league this season).

Overall, there’s very little to recommend the Titans on your NFL picks in what is essentially a mismatch on paper. They are correctly matched as the home underdogs in this game and it would take something special to upend the Texans, something we’ve not seen from them thus far. Texans are a win away from moving back to .500 winning percentage. Over and above the Xs and Os, that’s incentive to win this game to keep post-season hopes alive. Take the Texans as the 3-point favourites to snap their losing streak at the expense of the Titans on your NFL picks.
