The Cowboys enter the playoffs playing as well as any team in the NFL. They'll be rock-solid favorites for this matchup with Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and the Lions - who should we take with our NFL picks?

Odds Overview
We've got a little variance in terms of the NFL betting odds, as some sportsbooks have a spread of 7, with others posting 7.5 or even 8. Of course, it's Dallas that's favored at home.

As far as the total goes, the number is listed at 48.5 right now, but there's a lot of time left for the O/U to shift. Keep checking back with SBR's live NFL odds monitoring service in order to get the best possible number out there.

Dallas Cowboys
Things weren't looking too good Week 1 when the Cowboys lost at home to the 49ers, but boy, have they responded the right way. They won all six of their following games, and despite a few setbacks here and there, they became one of the teams to beat in the entire NFL. They won the always tough NFC East with a 12-4 regular season record.

To close out the year, Dallas won four straight, beating the Bears, Eagles and Redskins on the road and the Colts at home. Perhaps most impressively, the Cowboys became one of only a few teams in history to win all eight of their games on the road. What a great achievement that is.

There's little reason to expect much of a dropoff either. DeMarco Murray appears to be doing just fine, and the Cowboys offense is clicking, with Tony Romo playing mistake-free football and Dez Bryant wrecking havoc for opposing secondaries. The defense has been holding its own too, having held Indianapolis and Washington to a combined 24 points over the last two weeks. Dallas has stood out against the run, ranking eighth by allowing 103.1 points per game.

Detroit Lions
The Lions were aiming for a fifth straight win in Green Bay this past weekend, a victory that would have also given them the division title. However, they fell short and now have to settle for a testing road date against the red-hot Cowboys. C'est la vie.

You've got to credit Detroit, however, for the job they've done overall this season. In years past, it's been the Lions' offense, with Stafford and Calvin leading the way, that's been the heartbeat of the team. But, this year it's been the opposite, as the defense has really stepped up its game to become one of the most dominant units in the league. The Lions were first in the entire NFL against the run, surrendering a mere 69.3 yards per game, and they weren't too shaby in pass coverage either.

Nonetheless, character concerns have plagued this franchise in the past, and this year hasn't been any different. The latest incident involves Ndamukong Suh, who has been suspended for the game after stomping on Aaron Rodgers' leg this past weekend. As one of the centerpieces of the defense, his loss is going to be immensely difficult to cope with, assuming the appeal falls through that is.

Free NFL Pick
When making our free NFL picks for this week note that we've liked what we've seen out of the Lions, especially defensively, but it's hard to go against a team as hot as the Cowboys.

Dallas has everything going for them right now and seem to be getting the job done in every phase. They seem to be a lot more trustworthy than Stafford and the Lions, who have been much more difficult to predict throughout the season. You never really know with Stafford - sometimes he's on fire, and sometimes he can't stop making mistakes.

Throw in the likely absence of Suh, one of the most dominant defensive players out there, and we like Dallas to win straight up while also covering the spread as touchdown favorites in the NFL odds.
