Do we really trust either one of these teams? Maybe not, but that doesn't mean there isn't NFL betting value we can jump on and exploit in Week 15. Are we backing the Giants or Redskins?
Early on in the week, the Giants are favored by either 6.5 or 7 points. It's practically an even split, but obviously you're going to want to get the best possible number out there in order to maximize value. That's where SBR's odds monitoring service comes in.
We've got a total of 46.5 posted on the board for now, with some books listing a number of 47.
New York Giants
Know what the best cure for a lengthy losing streak? Playing a team like the Titans.
After losing seven straight games, New York was gifted the opportunity to play Tennessee, and boy did they take advantage, winning 36-7 on the road. In the process, the Giants easily covered the NFL odds.
However you look at it, it was pure domination out of New York, who almost doubled (402 to 207) the Titans' output in total offense. Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. linked up nicely once again, and rookie Andre Williams made the most of his start, running 24 times for 131 yards and a touchdown (to go with three catches). The Giants defense had no trouble making life difficult on both Zach Mettenberger and Jake Locker.
It's a lost season for New York in terms of making the playoffs, but there are still jobs on the line here, and the Giants are always going to get up for divisional games no matter what. That should be the case again this weekend. What's more, Beckham has been insanely good, and will only get better - we don't see anyone on the Redskins who will be able to slow him down.
The Redskins have been struggling in a big way recently, losing five straight games to drop to 3-10 on the year. It's been a rough couple of months, there's no question about it.
Perhaps the lowest point of the season came this past weekend in Washington's home date with St. Louis. The Redskins were shut out in front of their own fans, losing 24-0. Sure, the Rams are playing as well as they have all season long, but you should never be kept off the scoreboard entirely in your own building, especially against a team with a losing record themselves.
Individually, there wasn't much to like. Colt McCoy threw for 199 yards and was picked off twice, and the run game was completely stuffed. How bad was it? McCoy led the team in rushing with a grand total of 11 yards (on two carries). The absence of the injured DeSean Jackson certainly didn't help open things up, but it was still an anemic showing all-around.
What kind of response will we see out of Washington in Week 15? They know the Giants well, but recent performances have to be casting a lot of doubts in their mind.
OK, so the Giants haven't done much to deserve much love from us dedicated cappers, but the Washington Redskins are trending downwards with even more gusto.
Losers of five in a row, Washington is a mess right now. They were just shut out by St. Louis, and while that's unlikely to happen again, that kind of loss can really kill a team's desire, especially with postseason hopes already crushed. The Redskins also lost to this very New York team 45-14 at home back in Week 4. So yeah, there's that.
The Giants haven't won at home since Week 5, but we expect that to change this weekend. Manning and Beckham should have another big day through the air, and we think the team will carry over momentum from their dominant victory over the Titans. It always helps motivation to play against a hated rival, too. Take New York with your NFL picks in Week 15.
