In what could be the most anticipated preseason game of the offseason so far, the Browns head into Washington to play the Redskins. Here’s our prized recommended betting strategy for you.

Particular interest surrounds two of the quarterbacks in Monday's game between the Cleveland Browns and the Washington Redskins, and the NFL odds have the home team as -2 favorites, with a  total of 41 points.

Manziel Mania
Reports out of Cleveland are starting to paint a picture of what we might see on Monday night for this preseason game. It seems the Browns are going to give both of their quarterback equal time this week.

Brian Hoyer will reportedly get the start against the Redskins, however Johnny Manziel will also get some time with the Browns’ starters. However will this help or hurt the Browns’ chances of actually winning or covering this game as +2 NFL Odds underdogs?

In preseason games coaches are either in win or evaluate mode, and this screams evaluation to me. Playing both QBs in small stints won’t help the offensive flow or rhythm of Cleveland this week, and I could see it influencing the final score of the game.

Even further, last week no QB for the Browns played well, and that was against the Lions, a team not known for their defense. No Browns player had an offensive touchdown last week, and the three Browns QBs combined 16/37, with 193 yards passing, no touchdowns and one interception.

Also for the Browns is the question of how long the defense will be in the game. I doubt the Browns’ defensive starters will play in “half the game,” which is what coach Mike Pettine said earlier this week. The offense might play in a majority of the first half, but I can’t see the Browns’ risking injury in the second preseason game. They are going to be more interested in evaluating their QB battle and other backup positions on defense.

The Sharp Pick
On the other side of this game sits the Redskins, who could be one of the league’s most undervalued teams this season. With Jay Gruden coming in, this offense took another step forward from the Shanahan years, and we already saw some of that this offseason. With Robert Griffin III seemingly fully healed from his ACL injury in his rookie season, Washington has upside for days.

They also have offensive upside for days in this game against the Browns. While the Browns are going to more interested in evaluating their QBs, the Redskins are going to be trying to score no mater who is in the game. After Griffin gets his quarter worth of snaps this Monday, the Skins can go right to backup, Kurt Cousins. Cousins has proven he has the talent to be a starting QB in the NFL, and he will surely lay waste to the Browns backups.

This is especially true if the Browns’ offense plays like they did last week. In the end, at -2 in the NFL Odds, the Redskins look like a much better NFL pick. I am very skeptical of the sportsbooks putting odds on anything related to Johnny Football, and having him as an underdog is too good to be true.
