AFC East Odds, Picks, and 2022 Preview: Can the Patriots Again be Kings of the East?

The Buffalo Bills have claimed the top spot in the AFC East in each of the last two seasons. Can they make it a third? Or will the New England Patriots find their way back to the top? Let's dive in with our AFC East odds and picks for the 2022 season.

The Bills snapped New England's 11-season reign atop the AFC East in 2020. Then Buffalo made its own strides to begin a dynasty, winning a second straight division title in 2021. Oddsmakers seem to agree that the Bills' success will continue, as Buffalo is listed as the heavy AFC East favorite again in 2022.

The Bills are the only team not listed at plus odds in the division. They're in the -200 range at several books, while FanDuel and BetMGM list them around -185. The Miami Dolphins are next on the list at +400 at BetMGM, and as high as +475 through WynnBET.

AFC East Division Preview

Patriots to win AFC East (+500)

It will undoubtedly take a powerful season to knock the Bills off of the top spot. However, the Patriots and Bills did split their regular-season matchups in 2021. One of the glaring deficiencies that prevented the Patriots from winning both was a lack of pass-catching depth to support their rookie quarterback Mac Jones.

The Pats acquired DeVante Parker from the Miami Dolphins to fix that issue. Parker was once a 1,200-plus-yard receiver for the Dolphins, but he's dealt with injuries and poor quarterback performances over the last two seasons.

New England finished 2021 a game behind the Bills with a 10-7 record. A second win over Buffalo would have earned them the top spot in the division. Jones has now been given the help he needs to get the team that victory.

Jets Over 6 Wins (-110)

The Jets have logged two winning seasons since 2010. They've also only reached or surpassed this win total twice since the 2015 season. The franchise drafted quarterback Zach Wilson in 2021 to start the rebuilding process. Then the Jets opted for help at wide receiver and running back during the 2022 draft, bringing in Garrett Wilson from Ohio State and Breece Hall out of Iowa State.

The team still isn't close to winning the division. However, the Jets added a wideout who ended his college career with 1,058 receiving yards, and a running back who topped 1,400 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons. That should be good enough to notch at least three more wins in 2022.

Dolphins Over 9.5 wins (+135)

Miami was only one triumph away from hitting the 10-win mark in 2021. The Dolphins' offense struggled heavily, with Tua Tagovailoa either injured or ineffective. Miami then brought in Tyreek Hill, making one of the biggest moves in the offseason. Both Hill and Jaylen Waddle are capable of registering a 1,000-plus-yard campaign, giving Tagovailoa plenty of options.

The Dolphins also signed Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel to help a rushing offense that relied heavily on Miles Gaskin to carry the load in 2021.

With Hill aboard, the likelihood of this team winning an additional game in 2022 and cashing this prop immediately increases.
