The Eagles have been a big disappointment to close out the season, but we believe they're well worth backing with your NFL picks here this weekend. Find out why inside.
Looking for their fourth straight win, the Giants will be at home against a struggling Eagles team, and Eli and company are favored by a field goal on the NFL odds board,
With little to play for other than contracts and pride, it stands to reason that we'll see a lot of points on the board, and oddsmakers agree - they've listed a total of 52 for this Week 17 divisional battle.
New York Giants
It's too little too late for the Giants. They picked the wrong time to start playing good football, but at least they'll have some momentum built up in preparation for a better year in 2015.
After beating Tennessee and Washington with relative ease, New York then took care of business in St. Louis last week, winning 37-27 and crushing the NFL betting lines as underdogs. It was another dominant day at the office for sensational rookie Odell Beckham Jr., who had eight catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Rueben Randle came through with six receptions for 132 yards and a score, completing an excellent showing from Eli Manning and the Giants offense against a typically formidable Rams defense.
The big news surrounding the Giants over the second half of the season has been Beckham. There hasn't been a more productive wideout lately, and the Giants are just going to keep feeding him as many targets as possible. ODB should feast in this game against an Eagles defense that has looked very lackluster of late.
What a disastrous last few weeks it's been for the Eagles. They looked on course for a playoff spot, but have lost three consecutive games to drop out of contention. From a selfish standpoint, it's going to be said not to see Philadelphia in the postseason, as they've been one of the most entertaining teams to watch throughout the season.
Last week, the Eagles fell in the nation's capital to the Redskins. They accounted for nearly 500 total yards of offense, yet were unable to capitalize. Cody Parkey missed two field goals, and Philadelphia was penalized 13 times for 102 yards while also turning the ball over twice. It was a sloppy all-around game against Washington.
We'll have to see what kind of attitude the Eagles will come out with here in the last week of the regular season. They can't be happy at all with how they've been playing, so we're not sure what kind of response we'll see with nothing really to play for at this point. Nonetheless, there's no questioning the talent of this Philadelphia team, especially on the offensive side of the ball, and you have to figure they'll have plenty of success against the Giants' suspect D this weekend.
Recent results suggest we stay far away from the Eagles and put our faith in the Giants to keep up their winning ways.
But, we know better. Despite their recent shortcomings, Philadelphia is the better overall team, and we're not going to pass up on the chance to back them as underdogs. The Eagles embarrassed New York 27-0 at home earlier this season, and while a lot has changed since then, we believe the value is on the road team in this spot.
So while Philadelphia has lost three straight and New York has won three in a row, we're bucking the trends and banking on those streaks coming to an end. Look for the Eagles to not only cover, but win straight up -- you may want to check on a potential ML play on Philadelphia here to get even more bang out of your NFL picks. Good luck and enjoy the game!
