The 49ers and Rams get together for a NFC West clash on Thursday night. After a full week of coverage, what will be the winning sports picks in this match?

Follow our complete coverage of the San Francsico 49ers vs St. Louis Rams NFL Thursday Night Football game!

The game will be televised by the NFL Network with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m ET

According to current football betting odds, the 49ers are a 3-point favorite with the total in this contest set at 42. According to my NFL odds service 80% of public money has been wagered on the road favorite thus far.

49ers vs. Rams: Opening Odds Report by Jason Lake

Despite the disparity in these teams records a season ago, they produced 2 very exciting games that both went to overtime. The Rams were able to upset the 49ers 16-13 at home as a 7.5 point dog. These two division rivals then played to an extremely rare 24-24 overtime tie at Candlestick Park with the Rams easily covering as a 13.5-point dog.

Home Sweet Home

After opening the season with a win at home versus Arizona the Rams lost their last 2 at Atlanta and at Dallas. St. Louis has gone a respectable 5-3 in their last 8 home games. However, the road hasn’t been so kind and has impeded this young club from progressing much in recent years. Since the start of the 2007 season, the Rams are a dismal 10-39-1 on the road. St. Louis has relished the role of division home underdog of late going 3-0 SU&ATS in their last 3 while winning by an average of 7.7 points per game. All 3 of those games went under the total with an average of only 27 points per game combined being scored.

What’s wrong with the 49ers?

After opening the season with an exciting 34-28 come from behind win over Green Bay the 49ers have dropped 2 in a row. Losses are always a concern but it’s the nature of the losses that really have the experts scratching their head. In their losses to Seattle and Indianapolis the last 2 weeks they were outscored by a combined score of 56-10. You can almost give them a pass for the loss at Seattle who never seems to lose at home. However, last week’s lopsided 27-7 defeat to the Colts as a 10.5-point home favorite was mind boggling. Adding insult to injury was the fact the Colts punished the 49ers physically on both sides of the ball, and succeeded in beating them at their own game in the process.

Final Analysis

This is a game I’m not the least bit crazy about. I won’t be giving this one out to my clients nor will I be wagering on it myself. When tapping into my 4D handicapping software, every angle that I queried pertaining to all teams in this exact situation all favored the home underdog. Strictly on opinion only, and going against public money, I have to select the Rams plus the points in this NFC West encounter, for my sports picks.
