Last Sunday the San Francisco 49ers were humiliated at home by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 44-23. It was the Niners’ second defeat in a row and dropped them to 3-4 for the season as they visit the rival Los Angeles Rams. Check out our top 49ers-Rams picks below.

Week 8 is a rematch of January’s NFC Championship Game. The Rams got a rare win over the 49ers at SoFi Stadium that weekend, although they continue to struggle against their NFC West rivals in the regular season. San Francisco beat L.A. in each of the past seven regular-season matchups, including a 24-9 success in Santa Clara four weeks ago.

While the 49ers were giving up 529 total yards to the Chiefs last week, the Rams were on their bye week. Will a refreshed Los Angeles end the domination of its rivals from north Cal?

Here are our 49ers-Rams picks for Week 8 (odds via Draftkings Sportsbook and PointsBet; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

49ers vs. Rams Picks

49ers vs. Rams ATS Pick

49ers -1.5 (-105) ★★★★

The Rams haven’t beaten the 49ers in a regular-season game since December 2018. San Francisco is 7-1 straight up in its last eight games against the Rams, including the postseason. Los Angeles is 1-6 ATS in its last seven home games against the Niners.

The 49ers’ 44-23 defeat to the Chiefs last week means they’ve lost back-to-back games by at least 14 points for the first time since Weeks 9-10 in 2020. They followed those games up with a 23-20 win against the Rams in Los Angeles.

The Rams’ 17.3 points per game this season is the fourth worst rate in the league, which is a big drop-off from the top 10 offense of last year that averaged 27 PPG. San Francisco won by at least three points in each of its victories over Los Angeles during its seven-game winning streak over the NFC West rivals.

49ers vs. Rams O/U Pick

Over 43 (-107) ★★★★

Running back Christian McCaffrey had 158 scrimmage yards against the Rams at SoFi Stadium two weeks ago, in his final game with the Carolina Panthers. McCaffrey had only four snaps in the entire second half for the 49ers last week, but Shanahan has said the entire playbook will be available to his new star running back on Sunday.

In his last four games against the Niners, including the NFC Championship game, Rams receiver Cooper Kupp has averaged 126 receiving yards and one touchdown per game. 49ers dual-threat Deebo Samuel averaged 94.75 receiving yards in those games. He’s scored two rushing and three receiving touchdowns in that series, plus a passing touchdown. Both Shanahan and Sean McVay will be desperate for the win, and they’ll continue to utilize their key weapons to get it. There could be points aplenty on Sunday.

49ers vs. Rams Prop Pick

49ers team total touchdowns Over 2.5 (+115) ★★★★★

Last week, Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 303 yards, the 11th game in his career with at least 300 yards. The 49ers won the first seven of those games but are just 1-3 in the last four. The only win in that span came on the road against the Rams in Week 18 last season.

The 49ers scored more than two touchdowns against the Rams in four of their last seven regular-season matchups. San Francisco’s defense is facing a quarterback who’s thrown more picks (five) against it than touchdowns (four) since joining the Rams. Meanwhile, Rams QB Matthew Stafford has been intercepted for a touchdown against the 49ers twice in the last two seasons.

The Niners know how to win against this Rams team, and touchdowns can literally come from anywhere. Shanahan has had a full week of planning for McCaffrey, Samuel, and tight end George Kittle, which will scheme open options for Garoppolo in this potential shoot-out.
