The San Francisco 49ers begin anew with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback this week. Can Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos up their game against the quarterback's old NFC West rival? Here are our Week 3 49ers-Broncos same-game parlay picks.
Wilson hasn’t settled into his digs in Denver very swimmingly through two games as a Bronco. Sunday night, he’ll face off against a sturdy defense that he’s battled twice per year for his entire NFL career.
Here are my same-game parlay picks for the Week 3 Sunday night matchup between the 49ers and Broncos (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).
The 49ers didn’t miss a beat following Trey Lance’s departure due to a gruesome ankle injury last week against the Seattle Seahawks. Garoppolo is a game-manager equipped to win with the roster around him in San Francisco, so it’s not surprising to see the 49ers favored in this game against the struggling Broncos.
Through two weeks, Nathaniel Hackett looks like a man who fell upward in the coaching ranks on the strength of the future Hall of Fame quarterback who ran his offense at the previous stop.
Unless Russell Wilson can overcome the deficiencies of his head coach’s lack of preparedness in ways that have proved trying over the first two weeks of the season, I don’t envision the Broncos keeping this game particularly close. Though Wilson hasn’t lost to the 49ers since December 2019, I have a hard time believing that Hackett has Kyle Shanahan’s number in the same way that Pete Carroll had with Wilson in charge the last few seasons.

Samuel anytime touchdown (+115) ★★★★
Lance’s rushing ability taking away from Samuel’s upside on the ground was conceivable, but it didn’t really happen, with the wideout handling 12 rushing attempts through two games. After Lance’s season-ending ankle injury in Week 2, I expect the 49ers' offense to rely upon Deebo in an even greater place of prominence.
With San Francisco averaging just 18.5 points per game so far on the young season, the notion of touchdown upside could be considered minimal against a Broncos defense that has allowed a mere 13 PPG. But Deebo, who scored in Week 1, piled up 14 touchdowns in 16 games last year in an offense that force-fed him the football with Jimmy G under center.
In an offensive game plan that has looked eerily similar to the frustrating run-first, dink-and-dunk Pete Carroll schemes to which Wilson was confined for his latter years in Seattle, the Broncos have certainly not "let Russ cook" through the first two games of his tenure in Denver.
Though Wilson had a big passing yardage output in the opener against Seattle, that didn’t lead to a win for the Broncos in Week 1. Last week against the Houston Texans, Wilson went 14-for-31 for just 219 passing yards in a win that felt more like a loss due to the realities that surround this struggling offense.
Now he faces a 49ers defense that has allowed the fewest passing yards in the NFL through two games, with its opponents registering a total of 285. In 10 matchups against the 49ers over the past five years, Wilson has exceeded the 235.5 passing yardage total only twice.
