The beginning of the NFL season is tough to handicap, so mixing it up with some teasers is a good way to add value. Here are my three best two-team teaser combinations, all of which payout at -110.
Browns & Falcons
The Cleveland Browns started off slow last week, but in the end they were close to upsetting the Steelers. This week they play at home against the Saints, a team that might not be able to cover on the road against some college teams right now. The Saints have several ATS losses on the road dating back over the last several seasons. New Orleans is 7-12 SU and ATS since 2012 on the road, and teasing the undervalued Browns up to +12 ½ home underdogs should be enough to cash the first part of the teaser.
For the Falcons, they are on the road in Cincinnati as five point underdogs, and they are coming off of a very impressive win. Although I expect the Bengals to win the Falcons are going to put up a fight, and I think they can cover a double-digit teaser spread. As +5 underdogs on the road, the Falcons should be fine to cover +11.
My Free NFL Pick: Browns +12 ½ & Falcons +11
Chargers & Bucs
The Chargers are playing at home agaist the defending Super Bowl champions, and the NFL odds have them as +6 home dogs. The Chargers have the ability to cover the spread in this game if they play well, so a double digit dogs, I feel confident recommending them as one of my NFL picks, even against the Seahawks. The Chargers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games in September, and they are 36-17-4 ATS as underdogs.
On the other side of our second teaser, the Bucs are trying for their first win of the season at home against the Rams. With the quarterback issues the Rams are going through right now, the Bucs’ solid home defense is going to look even better in Week 2. They are currently -6 or -5 ½ favorites in the NFL odds, and teasing them down to a pick em’ is a solid way to add value to your NFL Picks.
My Free NFL Pick: Chargers +12 & Bucs + ½
Raiders & Packers
This is probably the riskiest of my three teasers, and it is likely because the Raiders are on the list. However, the NFL odds have them as +3 home underdogs against the Texans this week, and moving them to +9 looks like a solid play. Derek Carr should play solidly after throwing for 150 yards and two touchdowns last week, and doing so at home should be enough to keep this game within one score, even if they don’t win.
You could literally take both sides of this next teaser and probably cover both of them, but because I don’t trust the Jets, I am going with the Packers to pair with the Raiders. Green Bay is somewhat undervalued in Week 2 after their loss on opening night, and with extra time to rest and prepare, they should easily cover their teaser NFL odds. Because they are at -8, it gives them extra value in a six-point teaser. It allows you to tease them down to -2, and allows them to cover all the common NFL point differentials if they win.
