We’ve decided to do an early assessment of Sunday’s NFL contest between New Orleans and Washington. Go inside to read our thorough analysis that focuses on the total in this contest.

Urgency for Saints and Redskins on Sunday
Washington will entertain New Orleans on Sunday. The opening kickoff at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland is slated for 1:00 PM ET. Both teams desperately need a win to maintain a realistic chance of reaching the postseason. Current (11/10) NFL betting odds at BetOnline list New Orleans as a 1.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 50.0. These teams haven’t faced each other since opening day of 2012, and Washington won that game by a score of 40-32.

Red-Hot Offense and Defensive Liability
The New Orleans Saints are averaging 35.7 points scored and 493.0 yards of total offense per game during their previous three contests. Drew Brees has been magnificent during the last two games, completing 68-of-89 passes for 866 yards. There’s been a combined 46 points or more scored in each of the Saints first nine games this season, and that includes an average of 56.6 points scored per contest. Unfortunately their defense has been a huge liability. New Orleans has allowed an average of 29.8 points and 414.8 yards per game in 2015. The Saints defense is allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete 65.6% of their passes this season, and opponents are averaging a robust 8.1 yards per passing attempt.

Hail to the Redskins
Washington’s offense is nowhere near as prolific in comparison to their upcoming opponent they’ll face on Sunday. However, they’ve been fairly decent during their last three home games, averaging 26.0 points and 402.3 yards per contest during that stretch. The Redskins defense has been brutal during the past four games, allowing 30.3 points and 471.0 yards per contest.

Final Thoughts and Pick
The New Orleans defense can awaken any struggling offense the way they’ve played. Washington’s defense will be hard pressed to stop a Saints offense that’s been on fire during recent games. The total in this game is this high for a reason. I believe we’ll see this game approach or surpass a combined 60 points scored. One of my NFL picks on Sunday will be indicative of the prediction.
