We are down from six to four NFC playoff teams, and after this week it will be down to two. There have been some big and small shifts in some of the NFL future odds, so let’s take a brief moment to look at the four NFC playoff teams remaining, and their respective future odds to win the conference from Bovada.
The Hawks haven’t moved since last week, even though they will be playing the Saints once again. New Orleans got blasted by the Seahawks in Week 13 in Seattle, and if the Saints can’t improve upon that 34-7 ass kicking, their improbable win last week will mean nothing. The Hawks actually clinched a playoff berth with that Week 13 win, and if they can run off three straight scores twice on the Saints again, then -110 might be a bargain right now to win the conference. However I still think they are just a little bit overvalued at where they are currently priced. Seattle is not invincible at home, and I doubt the Saints roll over like in Week 13.
The 49ers were +500 to win the NFC this past week, and after their last second win over the Packers in the extreme weather, the Niners get a hopefully warmer game this week in Carolina. The Niners are once again road favorites in this game, so the books obviously think they are going to win. However I wouldn’t get to excited about the Niners here. +275 is their NFL Odds to win the NFC now, and it is pushing it. Although I liked their price this past week at +500, I think they are going to lose this week in Carolina.
The Panthers are one of the only teams that saw a decrease in their future odds despite not playing in the wildcard round. After a week off to prepare, the Panthers get to play San Francisco in the divisional round. Carolina has been undervalued all season, and I already stated they were my best NFC and Super Bowl bet last week. Don’t even think I’m backing away from them now. They have a hot defense and an offense that can put points on the board many different ways. Steve Smith looks like he will play this week, and even though both defenses are very good, I see the Panthers as the odds value for our free NFL picks.
The Saints dropped from +1400 last week to +700 this week, and going into Seattle, it’s hard for me to recommend the Saints here. Considering their troubles on the road and their blowout loss in Seattle in Week 13, it’s hard to consider New Orleans as valuable. Their defense and running game is going to have to show up huge in this game if they want a shot. They can’t turn the ball over, and Drew Bress has to have at least double the 147 passing yards he had in their first meeting this season. Is it impossible to believe the Saints could win? Absolutely not. However almost everything will have to go their way to beat the Seahawks, and at +700, they are far from on my radar in the NFC.
