Despite freshman star Trae Young coming off one of his lowest outputs of the campaign, No. 12 Oklahoma is a solid favorite on the NCAA basketball odds Tuesday night against Baylor.

The Big 12 is one big mess with five of the 10 teams within 2½ games of Kansas up in the conference crow’s nest. Baylor is not among them, but the Bears would love to close strong to keep their name fresh on the minds of the NCAA Tournament selection committee, and one big step to accomplishing that would be an upset Tuesday night at the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners.

Lon Kruger’s kids are a game-&-a-half behind the Jayhawks, and ESPN2’s cameras will be all over OU freshman Trae Young in this 9 PM (ET) tip at Lloyd Noble Center. Bookmaker has the Sooners giving up 7½ for this matchup, other shops listing them -8, with totals being offered from 155½ to 156½.

OU 1-4 ATS Last 5

Taking part in the Big 12/SEC Challenge this past weekend, Baylor lost its 3rd straight – and 5th in the last 6 – at Florida, 81-60. The Bears were no match for the sharpshooting Gators, who hit 14 of 25 from 3-point range on the offensive end while also getting picked by Florida for 10 steals among Baylor’s 15 turnovers. Scott Drew’s charges were also beaten on the perimeter in the previous loss to Kansas State, the Wildcats hitting 8 of 17 from long range in a 90-83 upset.

Also dropping their interconference clash with the SEC were the Sooners, who have been equally cold of late with just one win in their last four trips to the floor and falling to the NCAA basketball odds in 4 of 5. The 80-73 setback at Alabama closed as a pick ‘em, the Crimson Tide posting the mild upset thanks to some sharpshooting of their own (30-for-54 FG). A lot was made of Young scoring just 17 points, his fewest since 15 in the season opener vs. Omaha, though scoring was more balanced overall with four Sooners posting double digits on the ledger.

Series History, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

Baylor has a long way to go to get even for the 30-game win streak Oklahoma logged in the rivalry up until 2010, but the Bears have gained respectability by splitting the last 18 with the Sooners and sweeping the series last season. Still, Oklahoma holds a 44-14 stranglehold over the years and has won 22 of the 27 played in Norman. Baylor’s 76-50 win on the Noble hardwood 13 months ago came as 6½-point road chalk and marked the Bears’ 2nd straight cover in Oklahoma, both of those games also staying ‘under’ the scoreboard mark.

None of Baylor’s four Big 12 roadies up to now reached the totals, and being a fan of the ‘under’ in general, that’s the way I’m going with my free college basketball pick.
