Villanova has been known to take care of business on its home floor, which makes it a top college basketball pick against defensively-challenged Xavier Wednesday.

Xavier has alternated wins and losses since the start of Big East Conference play, which is important to consider when making your college basketball picks, as it looks to bounce back from a 88-76 defeat to the Butler Bulldogs as 2.5-point road underdogs. The Musketeers have struggled defensively in their last three overall games away from home—allowing opponents to average 82.7 points on 49.7 percent shooting.

Sixth year head coach Chris Mack has stated that his team must “grow up and get tougher” to win true road games in conference play, as it ranks 112th in the country in defensive efficiency.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 10-7 SU and 11-6 ATS in January.

Back On Track
After suffering its first loss of the season on Jan. 3, Villanova has come right back to put together a pair of impressive efforts, including a 81-64 triumph over DePaul as 21.5-point home favorites last Saturday. The Wildcats are legitimate contenders to make a deep run in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college basketball odds, as point guard Ryan Arcidiacono’s assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.9 leads the Big East. The junior is the only player in the starting lineup that doesn’t average double figures, with that group being led by fellow guard Darrun Hilliard at 13.5 points a contest.

It’s important to point out that the squad is 5-1 SU and 3-3 ATS as home favorites of 9.5 to 12 points dating back to the 2012-13 campaign, with the OVER going 3-2-1 in that situation.

Starting Fast
The Musketeers have led 15 of their 16 games this season at the break, but they faced a three-point disadvantage in their setback against the Bulldogs last Saturday.

Xavier has enough offensive firepower to match tonight’s opponent, with five players averaging double figures in conference play, with senior point guard Dee Davis leading the way at 11.5.

Key Number
The Wildcats have put together an impressive 36-1 SU record when scoring 70 or more points dating back to last season, including a perfect 13-0 mark this year. Villanova will be targeting this key number at The Pavilion Wednesday, as Xavier has proven victorious in all eight of its games when holding foes to 70 or fewer points.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Wildcats as one of their top basketball picks, as the Musketeers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games versus a team with a winning home record.
