The hype of Wichita State wanting to extract revenge against Kentucky will be highly discussed, the fact is only a few players on each team were on the rosters and none played big roles from 2014.

  Wichita State vs. Kentucky

South Region, Sunday 2:40 pm E.T.

Wichita State Breakdown

The Shockers had to battle for 40 minutes to hold off Dayton and coach Gregg Marshall already knows that if his Wichita State (31-4, 19-12-1 ATS) team shoots under 40 percent and 30 percent from three-point range, they will have no shot to knock off Kentucky. To beat the Wildcats, the Shockers will have to play great defense like they did against Dayton (31% shooting allowed) and fundamentally box-out to keep the more athletically gifted Wildcats off the boards. On defense, Wichita State has to take away dribble penetration from Kentucky's outstanding guards, yet guard against center Bam Adebayo dunks in the paint. The 'Cats guards will turn the ball over and the Shockers need quick points when they do.

Kentucky Breakdown

Maybe it was nerves or expectations or just letting up, but Kentucky (30-5, 16-18 ATS) did not look like a team ready to make a long run in the tournament. After building 14-point halftime lead over Northern Kentucky, the Wildcats were outplayed and out-hustled the rest of the way. “We’re going to have to play much better to be in the game with (the Shockers),” coach John Calipari said. “Wichita is tough, physically. Veterans. They play hard.” Kentucky only has nine turnovers Friday night but primary ball-handler De'Aaron Fox has six of them and if the Wildcats even approach 3-for-17 from three-point range again, their chances of beating the college basketball odds and Wichita State are slim.

 What to Watch For

The spread on this contest opened with Kentucky at -2 and the Wildcats at last look were beefed up to -3.5. For college basketball picks, as much as I would like to take Wichita State, their shooting has really been off, converting on less than 40 percent in three of last four contests and this becomes the difference in a closely contested game that Kentucky wins by 6.
