Last time Texas and West Virginia met they ended with the total just over 100 combined points.  Who will be our NCAA basketball pick tonight, will we see the same low-scoring affair?

NCAA basketball odds experts have come out with the total for this game at 137.5 and the Longhorns as favorites. This total seems way too high considering their earlier matchup, but I like for both of these teams to play a completely different type of ballgame tonight. For one of my selections today, I will back over the total and anticipate a lot more offensive production from both Texas and West Virginia.

West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia is averaging 80 points per game while shooting 45.4% in the field, and allowing 64.8 points per game on 41.9% shooting from the field. On the season they are 9-12-1 overall on their over under totals, and 6-6-1 on the road. They are battling Kansas at the top of the conference standings so every game for them is crucial. Their schedule doesn't get any easier tonight nor their next game against Oklahoma, nor their next game after that against Iowa State, needless to say this has been a fantastic year to watch Big 12 basketball. West Virginia offensively has been solid in pushing the tempo and decently efficient overall. What they do as well as anybody though is get to the free-throw line as they average 28.9 attempts per game which ranks second in the country. Last time they faced Texas they had the worst shooting night they have had all season hitting just 31% of their shots, 14% from beyond the arc, and only making a miserable 8 out of 23 chances at the line. Although they are now on the road at Texas I don't expect them to be that inefficient again. Defensively they are very good statistically and they control tempo and pace, however on the road they are not quite as suffocating.

Texas Longhorns
Texas is averaging 72.3 points per game while shooting 43.6% from the field, and allowing 67.1 point per game on 40.3% shooting from the field. On the season they are 10-14 overall on their over under totals, and 5-7 at home. Just like West Virginia last game when these two met Texas didn't do a whole lot offensively. Although they won the game they shot only 39% from the field, and made just 18 of 30 free-throw attempts. They did shoot the three particularly well that night hitting 6 of 15 from distance. They have been the surprise team of the league this season and they will have their hands full tonight as West Virginia will be the best defensive team that they have hosted so far. Still, offensively they average just over 75 points at home and all of their offensive statistics go up just a bit. Defensively they have been extremely good this season highlighted by allowing opponents to shoot just 43.6% on their two point shots which ranks 26th in the country. However, West Virginia has guys that can score and with this second opportunity to face the Longhorns, as mentioned, I expect them to be able to put up some points against a good Longhorn defense. At the same time I expect Texas to follow suit.

These two teams shot poorly overall in their first matchup, and they couldn't hit a free-throw to save their lives. I don't expect that to repeat itself tonight and for these two teams to put up a decent number combined. For one of your NCAA basketball picks, I recommend backing the over between Texas and West Virginia. Although they both play good defense the offenses will be the sides that step up tonight.
