The past 11 meetings between West Virginia and TCU have all gone to the Mountaineers, and they’re favored on the NCAA basketball odds to keep the streak alive Monday in Fort Worth.

As if things weren’t already tough enough for Jamie Dixon and TCU, now the Horned Frogs are being asked to pull out of their recent funk against a team they’ve never beaten before and in a building they’ve never taken down a ranked opponent. Adding to that is it’s happening in their first-ever appearance on ESPN’s Big Monday.

The spotlight is indeed on the Frogs, who find the West Virginia Mountaineers paying them a visit this evening (9 PM ET). Following a 12-0 start to the season, TCU has been knocked around in Big 12 play with five losses in seven games. Things haven’t been all peachy for Bob Huggins and the Mountaineers lately, either, WVU dropping two of its last three before arriving at Schollmaier Arena. Expectations are for a tightly-contested battle with Bookmaker favoring West Virginia by 1 and 160 for the total.

TCU 1-3 Vs. Ranked Foes This Season

The Mountaineers’ ascent to No. 2 in the polls a couple of weeks ago was short-lived after dropping tough matchups at Texas Tech and home vs. Kansas. They found themselves in a close contest again this past Saturday against Texas before the Longhorns went cold with scoring droughts in both halves as the Mountaineers coasted to an 86-51 decision as 9-point favorites. They are going to be without forward Teddy Allen this evening, the freshman being held out of his 3rd straight game for disciplinary reasons.

TCU’s offense was too strong for all comers on the non-conference schedule, but an inability to play on the other end of the floor has cost the Horned Frogs in Big 12 action. The result has helped bettors playing the ‘over,’ their first six league contests going past the NCAA basketball odds before that streak was stopped in a 73-68 loss at Kansas State on Saturday. Since moving back into renovated Schollmaier Arena, 10 ranked teams have come to Cowtown and TCU has lost each one.

Series History, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

All 11 meetings between these schools have come since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12. The Horned Frogs have only come close to picking up a win in the series twice, an 86-85 overtime loss at WVU and a 61-60 setback last year in Fort Worth. The Mountaineers covered their first five victories in the rivalry, but TCU has come back to send its backers to the pay window four of the last six clashes.

There’s no reason to get cute with my free college basketball pick for this one. Anyone following my plays the past week-&-a-half already knows I’m going ‘under.’
