BYU vs. San Diego 11:00PM ET
Yesterday, I wore an ugly holiday sweater representative of my ugly pick on South Carolina Tuesday night.  It didn’t help, as there were negative returns once again on the 3 selections here last night, dropping the BKB record of SBR Videos to 33-23 ATS (not bad, considering they are free).

Bettting Preview
The BYU Cougars travel to San Diego where they will meet the Toreros in this 11:00 pm ET start at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. This selection is reminiscent of last night’s losing pick on St. Bonnie against the LaSalle team who had lost 10 straight games by 8 or more points, only to upset St. Bonnie (a team who had won 5 consecutive games). This game is also the first of a home and home series which finds the teams flying to Provo for a Saturday night rematch at the Marriott Center. As you will see in the analysis below, the fundamentals and technicals are coinciding here for a very strong selection.

Former New Mexico Asst., Lamont Smith, returns to San Diego to pick up the pieces of a fading Torero team, who won only 68 games the previous 5 years.  His first year at the helm of the Toreros is not much better, as they enter on a 3-game losing streak, have an 8-17 SU mark and are just 3-11 SU in WCC play. Against the top 2 teams in the league, they have already lost to St. Mary’s by 33 and 17 points and to Gonzaga by 36 points.  BYU is even more prolific on the offensive end. San Diego is on our list of both Towel Tossers and Offensive Oafs.  Their attack averages just 61 PPG, shooting 39% from the field, 28% from the arc with negatives in rebound margin, assist/TO ration and TO margin. Once they fall behind the fast-paced Cougars, they have no chance to catch up.

BYU enters, as usual, as the No. 3 team in the league, trailing St. Mary’s and Gonzaga in the league standings. Also as usual, the Cougars are dominating inferior teams with a fast-paced offense that is averaging 84 PPG on 47% from the field, 38% from the arc, while knocking down 9 triples.  With a (+6) rebound margin and dishing out over 16 assists per game, they are the total offensive package.  This is translated into a 14-6 ATS mark as chalk this season, running the record of 11th year HC Rose to 182-114 ATS in the favorite role. The Cougars of Rose are also 50-30 ATS as road chalk.

Must feel comfortable laying the double digits in the first game of this 2-game set with any potential letdown for the Cougars coming Saturday night!   For now, you can lay it with confidence.  I invite you to put the NCAA Basketball odds in your favor and join me in my NCAA Basketball pick on BYU tonight.
