We could only manage a split of our two college basketball picks Tuesday, as Villanova came through, but Minnesota let us down. We'll shoot for better results with a pair of college hoops Picks of the Day for Wednesday.

Xavier -7 over Seton Hall
The sputtering Musketeers, who are only 5-4 over their last nine games, host the 19th-ranked Pirates.

Xavier started 5-0 this season, then lost a couple of games it probably shouldn't have, to UTEP and Long Beach State. Since then the Musketeers have beaten Missouri and Georgetown, but last time out, as 10-point favorites, they lost at DePaul 71-68. Xavier shot just 42 percent from the floor, and allowed the Blue Demons to shoot 52 percent, including 10-for-20 from 3-point land.

Seton Hall, meanwhile, has won three games in a row, after upsetting Villanova Saturday in overtime 66-61. The Pirates haven't played the toughest of schedules so far this season, but they're also 12-1 ATS, making them the best moneymaker in college basketball so far. However, no team can keep that kind of run going for too long.

We're also thinking Seton Hall has been playing a bit above its head so far.

Xavier should shoot the ball a little better tonight than it did Saturday against DePaul, and it won't give up 10 trifectas. So we are making the Musketeers our NCAA Basketball pick to win this game with room to spare for the cover.

Colorado State -5 over Wyoming
Two teams who are a combined 27-3 so far this season meet when the Rams host the Cowboys.

CSU started 14-0 this season, including wins over rival Colorado and Boise State. Last time out, though, last Saturday, the Rams took their first loss of the season, a 66-53 decision at New Mexico State. CSU shot just 33 percent from the field, while allowing the Aggies to shoot 51 percent.

On the season the Rams college basketball odds are just 3-9 ATS; but our guess is that figure will improve, perhaps beginning Wednesday night. But it won't be easy; the Cowboys are 13-2 and riding a five-game winning streak. However, Wyoming has been having problems of its own covering spreads, going just 2-7 ATS on the season, 0-5-1 ATS over its last six lined games.

The Cowboys might be the better of these two teams over the longer run this season, but we like Colorado State's chances for a bounce-back performance, after laying an egg last time out. So we'll go with the Rams in this spot, minus the points.
