#1 Villanova vs. Temple
Top-ranked Villanova (22-3, 12-1 Big East) heads across the City of Brotherly Love to the Liacouras Center to face Temple (16-8, 10-3 Big Ten) in this enticing Philadelphia Big 5 battle on Wednesday night. NCAA basketball odds experts have opened up this game with visitors Villanova as 8-point favorites (Bookmaker) over Quenton DeCosey and host Temple with the Total (Points) for this game set at 132½ (Bookmaker).

Villanova Wildcats
The Villanova Wildcats (12-11-1 ATS, 4-4-1 ATS Road) and 15-year Head Coach Jay Wright have been ranked #1 in the Polls for two straight weeks now, something of a rarity this strange season where it really seems about 20 different teams could rise up and snatch the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. In their last game, Villanova (16/1 to win National Championship, Paddy Power) handed St. John’s its 16th straight Loss, 73-63 as F Daniel Ochefu scored 25 points and G Ryan Arcidiacono added 13 points for the Wildcats in the Win in which Villanova outrebounded the Johnnies, 37-28. The Wildcats had W3 straight ATS before facing the Red Storm but had L5 consecutive ATS before that win streak, and no doubt Villanova finds a way to muck things up somehow this season and losing here to city rival Temple is a strong possibility in this non-conference and Philadelphia Big 5 meeting. Injury-wise, the Wildcats are without the services of G Donte DiVincenzo (Foot) and F Tim Delaney (Hip) who are both Out Indefinitely. It would seem at this point in time, the top seed in the East Region bracket is likely Villanova’s to lose but there is still much basketball to be played and if Villanova (75.8 PF-61 AA) is the best basketball team in the land, we are all in a heap of trouble. Same song, different year and talk to me when the Wildcats have made the Sweet Sixteen. These Polls and Rankings really are dumber than dumb when applied to College Basketball and thank God for the coming March Madness to separate the wheat from the chaff with actual basketball games, although this is as weak as a College Basketball year as has been seen in quite some time.

Temple Owls
Temple (13-9-0 ATS, 6-3 ATS Home) and 9th-year Head Coach Fran Dunphy sit atop the American Athletic Conference and will surely be lying in wait for top-ranked Villanova here on Wednesday night and Quenton DeCosey (16.6 ppg), Jaylen Bond (8.4 rpg) and the Owls definitely have a chance of winning this game straight up despite the fact their opponent is ranked #1 in the Polls and they haven’t used the word “pole” since they went fishing 17 summers ago. And even though Villanova is #1 in the Ken Pomeroy rankings and Temple (200/1 to win National Championship, Ladbrokes) is currently (Tuesday) ranked at #91, it seems Numbers and Power Rankings might not matter in an emotional spot like this with host Temple (69.4 PF-67.4 AA) knowing that it can score mega brownie points and get much confidence from beating the #1 team in the land in this game. And the Owls have W5 SU and 8 of their L9 games and this baby is at the friendly confines of the Liacouras Center and on primetime TV (espn2), so you now the Home crowd will be into it and should help the Owls. In their last game, Temple defeated South Florida, 77-65 as four starters finished in double-figures with Bond (18 points), F Obi Enechionyia (18 points), DeCosey (12 points, 6 rebounds) and G Josh Brown (10 points) leading the charge. G Tevin Coleman also had 10 points off the Bench for Temple which comes into this big rivalry game with fairly healthy with only C Ernest Aflakpui (Knee) listed as Questionable.

Recent Relevant Series Trends and Best Betting Approaches
The last time these two played, host Villanova defeated Temple, 85-62 and easily covered ATS back in December of 2014 (TEMP -16½, 132½, Over) and the series Trends reveal that the Wildcats are 6-4 ATS the L10 in this series while the Over is a strong 8-2 ATS the L10 and hit in 6 of the L7 meetings between these two teams while the Over is 27-12-1 ATS the L40 Wildcats Road games (69.2%). However, the Under is 7-3 ATS the L10 Villanova Non-Conference tilts. Villanova is 7-3 SU in those L10 meetings against Temple and the Wildcats are 13-3 ATS in their L16 Wednesday-played games. If Temple (9-3 ATS L12 vs Big East) can hit some 3’s and get that wonderful balanced scoring like it did in its last game against the Bulls, the Owls can definitely win this one outright although Hart (15.2 ppg), Ochefu (8.2 ppg) and Villanova will definitely be a tough nut to crack and there should be many Wildcats fans at this game. Take Temple as the NCAA basketball pick.
