I am making a projection that Rice will play this Quarter Final game against UTEP, after defeating S. Miss (as 12 point favorite) Wednesday, March 8th. If that is the case, expect a Rice team, who is 22-10 SU for the year, to be a short favorite against the UTEP team who is just 14-16 SU for the season. Such is the case when a team’s results from the first half of the season are so strongly factored in to the CCT lines. For, this is a UTEP team, who in no way resembles the one whose 12-game losing streak on January 7th dropped them to 2-13 SU, 2-8 ATS for the year and 0-3 SU ATS in league play. Since that time, the Miners are 12-3 SU and have run off 13 consecutive pointspread victories, in which they have covered the pointspread by 146 points (more than 11 PPG). The change all came about when the Miners bought into the amoeba defensive concepts of their veteran HC Floyd, along with the outstanding guard play of Oregon transfer (Artis) and Omega Harris, the fundamentally sound Miners have ripped through CUSA play. Among the victims in their streak was this Rice team, whom they defeated in Houston as 8 point dog (79-71). The up-tempo style of the Owls makes them the perfect victim of an offensively efficient, defensive sound half-court Miners. There is little doubt that this is an epitome of Floyd’s momentum tendencies as a coach, which finds his teams to be 31-9 ATS after 3 or more consecutive spread wins. Yet another UTEP upset no surprise to this bureau! #CBKB, #CCTS, #BASKETBALL
