For Tuesday’s NCAA college basketball matchups we are going to take a look at couple solid underdogs.  Look for LA Lafayette to take LA Tech down to the wire and for undefeated Mississippi State to give Cincinnati a surprisingly tough game.

Mississippi State vs. Cincinnati

Despite the fact, the Bulldogs are undefeated oddsmakers have come out making Ben Howland’s squad a +11.5 underdog. This is mostly due to them not playing anyone so far this season but for my NCAAB pick, I will back Mississippi State plus the points. Mick Cronin does an excellent job with Cincy and they are coming off two tough losses to Xavier and Florida so this should be a nice bounce-back game for them. With this game being on a neutral floor though I just think they are giving too many points and they might be peeking ahead a bit to UCLA coming up next. The Bearcats have been excellent on the defensive end allowing opponents to shoot just 36.8% overall and only 38.8% on two-point shots. The Bulldogs will give them a tough matchup in this area as from the interior extended considering they are shooting at a 62% clip on the season. Miss State has also been tough on the other side of the ball allowing opponents to shoot just 37.4% overall and ranking 12th in the country in opponent shooting efficiency. This game could turn out to be a real grind in which I believe grabbing the points will be the smarter play.

LA Lafayette vs, LA Tech

This has turned out to be a nice Louisiana rivalry the past several years with these two teams splitting their games the last two seasons. Oddsmakers have come out making the home team the favorite in every matchup the past several seasons so I am not surprised to see LA Tech as a -4.5 favorite. I will back the Lafayette plus the points. This is a very good team that I think matches up well with LA Tech so I look for this game to go to the buzzer. On the season both teams have been good on both sides of the ball and come in with just two losses each. Both teams rank in the top half of all NCAA teams defensively statistically with LA Tech ranking 62nd in the country in opponent shooting efficiency and Lafayette sitting at 100th. However, it is on the offensive side of the ball in which I believe the Rajin Cajuns have a solid advantage shooting over 46% from the field. As well, they return their top four scorers from last year so they should come in with some confidence they can pull the minor upset.
