  • Iona is 0-4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games.
  • Iona is 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a straight up win.
  • Iona is 1-4 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
  • Fairfield is 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a straight up win.
  • Fairfield is 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win.
  • Fairfield is 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral site games.

It’s nice to see a mid-major conference gain the spotlight and that’s what will happen as ESPN broadcasts the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game when Fairfield and Iona meet on a neutral site in Albany, N.Y. on Monday. This is a surprising tandem considering that neither was expected to remain standing at the end, but the big guns were one-and-done after No. 1 Rider was stunned by No. 9 St. Peter’s and No. 2 Canisius was shocked by No. 7 Quinnipiac.

Iona received a bye in the first round by virtue of its No. 4 seed, while Fairfield dispatched No. 11 Marist 71-57 in the opening round. The quarterfinals saw Iona back in action and advancing with a 72-60 win over No. 5 Manhattan, and Fairfield upended No. 3 Niagara with a 99-70 victory. The semifinals almost saw another upset, but Iona edged No. 9 St. Peter’s 65-62, while Fairfield easily covered the NCAA basketball odds as 3½-point favorites with a 74-64 win over No. 7 Quinnipiac.

These teams split the season series, with both winning on their respective home courts. Fairfield prevailed in a 103-100 overtime thriller in the last meeting five weeks ago that witnessed Stags’ Tyler Nelson score 32 points and sophomore guard Aidas Kavaliauskas effort a double-double. Over the last four meetings, Fairfield has gone 2-2 straight up and 3-1 ATS against the Gaels. Recently, the Stags have put it all together, covering the number in all three tournament victories, while the Gaels have gone 4-6 ATS over their last 10 games. Although it is true that Iona has the more potent offense on paper, averaging 79.8 PPG vs. Fairfield’s 76.1, the Stags' defense has come alive in holding their last three tournament opponents to just 66 points per game. Iona’s offense has cooled in two tournament victories with a 68.5 average, 10 points less than their season average.

This game is much more of a neutral-site pick’em than the higher-seeded Iona laying four points. Fairfield has acquitted itself quite nicely as of late and the betting trends are all telling us that the Stags are in prime position to cover the number and could indeed very well win this game outright. They are 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and we believe they will not only make that 5-1 but 5Dimes will give you +165 that Fairfield will win this game outright. Grab the points, and put a few bucks on the money line with Fairfield in your NCAA basketball picks tonight.
