A pair of confident offenses collides in NC State at Virginia Tech, while Georgia looks to improve off it worst outing of the season with a trip to Vandy. Both games feature in Wednesday night’s best college basketball bets.

Georgia at Vanderbilt (-3.5)

Georgia (13-9 SU, 10-9 ATS) has dropped six of its last seven away from Athens, the last a 15-point blowout at Mississippi State (72-57) on Saturday. Fielding a competitive offense is the issue for head coach Mark Fox. The Bulldogs average 59.0 points per game on 39.0 percent shooting during the losing stretch. Their long-range game is missing in action, going 36 of 130 (27.6 percent) from behind the arc.

In the betting market, Georgia has failed to reach its projected team total in each by an average of 7.4 points per game. The ‘under’ is 6-1 overall, finishing 11.5 points below a 138.1 game total. Oddsmakers opened the Vanderbilt (8-15 SU, 5-15 ATS) matchup at 'over/under' 132 points.

The Commodores are in the SEC basement with a 2-8 SU record. Their defense needs work, particularly in high-efficiency areas. It surrenders 78.7 points per game on 47.7 percent shooting against conference foes. From the 3-point area, it allows 42.1 percent. Against all opponents, the unit yields a below-average 62.6 percent success rate on shots near the rim. The Dores must tighten up in these areas to earn more wins.

Good things happen for Vandy when it plays good D. Since the start of last season, the Commodores are 12-4 SU and 14-2 ATS holding SEC foes to 71 points or less. When allowing more, they slip to 2-13 SU and 5-10 ATS overall. For what it’s worth, Fox’s Bulldogs have not put up more than 70 points in their last six visits to Memorial Gymnasium.

Georgia played its worst game of the season last time out, which in the world of basketball betting equates to likely a strong bounce-back effort Wednesday. Georgia is 6-4 SU and 8-2 ATS vs. SEC competition all-time behind Fox when failing to cover the spread by double digits in the prior contest. It missed the mark by 12.5 in Starkville. Expect a good scoring night for the Bulldogs. Take the 3.5 points.

North Carolina State at Virginia Tech (-5)

NC State (16-7 SU, 8-8 ATS) has won six of its last eight ACC contests since upsetting Duke 96-85 as a 12.5-point underdog on Jan. 6. The Blue Devils win was one of three in this span with the Pack catching points. They topped North Carolina 95-91 in overtime, also spotted 12.5, and eked past Clemson 78-77 as 4-point pups. Overall, State is bettering a 3.2 average line by 6.3 points per game. Undervalued anyone? Here's a few highlights from their latest win against Notre Dame:

Virginia Tech (16-7 SU, 11-8 ATS), meanwhile, is starting to find its early-season offensive form that made it one of the highest-scoring teams in the nation to begin the year. Since putting up a paltry 52 and 56 points against Syracuse and Virginia to open ACC play, the Hokies are posting 81.5 points per game on 49.4 percent shooting. The ‘over’ is 7-1 in this span, a 160.9 final score topping a 152.5 game total by 8.4 points per game.

Virginia Tech (52) and N.C. State (47) like to get up and down the court in a hurry, each ranking near the top 50 in tempo nationally. The ‘over’ has hit in three of four ACC contests tipping off with a 160 game total or higher this season among both. The Pack are confident and should challenge late here, but they’ll have to stay close to a red-hot Hokies offense. Both teams reach the 80-point mark. Pick ‘over’ 161.5 points.
