With football out of the way temporarily, we have a solid slate of NCAA Basketball games for this Tuesday, featuring a bunch of top 25 teams. Time to make some coin with our picks.
#11 Wichita State (10-0) vs. Alabama (5-4)
Road Team Not Getting Credit?
This game immediately stuck out to me like a sore thumb as the Shockers, who’ve been dominant in their first 10 games of the season, are just a 2.5 point betting favorite in the ball game.
Although the Shockers haven’t faced any top 25 competition, their record is far from hollow with wins over Tennessee, St. Louis, and BYU. In tonight’s contest, Wichita State’s leading scorer, Ron Baker, is expected to play despite an ankle injury and the Shockers will need him as the Crimson Tide have won 15 consecutive regular season home games.
The Shockers are coming off of a 70-61 victory over Tennessee in which Tekele Cotton picked up much of the slack left by the injured Baker as he had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. With no definitive superstar, this team is still fairly deep in which anyone can step up and lead the way.
Alabama has faced some tough opponents in Duke, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. The one positive thing that you can say about 2 of the losses in these games is that Alabama was competitive, losing by 10 points or less. Alabama also has matchups against UCLA and Xavier coming up and that puts extra importance on tonight’s game.
Trevor Releford To Play
Alabama welcomes back leading scorer Trevor Releford after a one game absence with a hip injury. Releford is a multi-faceted ball player that the Crimson Tide want handling the ball if this game is close. He’s shooting 96% from the foul line and that can be invaluable in a tight game of such importance. Retin Obasohan has been leading the way for Alabama lately as he’s looking for his 3rd consecutive game of 20 points or more. A win here would be huge on Alabama’s resume as the opponents keep on getting tougher.
Most people are going to lean in Wichita State’s direction for their college basketball picks, but I like Alabama as long as Releford plays. They’re dominant at home and their schedule has been far from easy.

North Florida (5-6) vs. #5 Michigan State (8-1)
Time To Think About It
I’ve been getting beaten lately by some favorites not covering these lopsided type of matchups and tonight we have another one as the Spartans are a heavy 24.5 point betting favorite on the college basketball odds. Although Michigan State has to worry about the status of leading scorer, Gary Harris, I’m expecting the Spartans to come out strong in this game.
In their last 2 games, they’ve been far from impressive. The Spartans were embarrassed by North Carolina as once again Roy Williams had Tom Izzo’s number and they also had to hold their breath against a much inferior Oakland Golden Grizzlies squad as they eaked out a 4 point win.
By no means is Michigan State a “fake top 5 team.” Right from the start of the season, they defeated the #1 Kentucky Wildcats and this is a team that wants to play the best and not hide behind a cupcake schedule.
Occasionally, a cupcake like North Florida falls in a team’s lap and look for Michigan State to take care of business here. Even though North Florida is a losing squad, they must be given credit for such an impressive schedule, taking on the likes of Florida, Ohio State, Indiana, and Alabama. That said, they don’t have the talent to match up against Michigan State.
Both Keith Appling and Adreian Payne, stepped up with 20 plus point performances with the absence of Harris against Oakland and I expect this experienced trio to light up the scoreboard tonight. These players are big money players and this is a statement game.
