Looking to pick themselves up following two losses, the Oklahoma Sooners are slight favorites on the NCAA basketball odds against the visiting Kansas Jayhawks.

This was supposed to be the 13-year string of regular season titles Kansas is currently riding came to an end. Yet, here are the Jayhawks on top of the standing as the schedule nears the halfway mark and they head to Norman to take on Trae Young and the Oklahoma Sooners.

It’s a huge game for Oklahoma since a loss would leave the Sooners three games behind Kansas in the conference ranks, all but ending their shot at the regular season crown and the No. 1 seed for the Big 12 Tournament. As big as it is, it’s not big enough for ESPN to send its 1st-string to Lloyd Noble Center for the 7 PM (ET) tip, instead assigning the game to Jon Sciambi and Tom Crean. 5Dimes is selling the Sooners -1½ with 170 for the total.

Sooners In Midst Of 12-Game Home Win Streak

Bill Self and the Jayhawks cruise into Norman on a 5-game run, the latest victory coming last Saturday at home where Kansas rallied from a 6-point deficit in the final two minutes to beat Baylor, 70-67. The Jayhawks scored the game’s final nine points, seven of those coming from Malik Newman who poured in 24 for the game. The sophomore’s late heroics helped Kansas avoid the embarrassment of an upset as 7½ point chalk after leading by 11 at the half.

Oklahoma wasn’t so lucky Saturday in Stillwater where the Sooners fell for the second game in a row, Oklahoma State posting an 83-81 decision in overtime with the Cowboys getting 2 at home on the NCAA basketball odds. Young scored a career-high 48 for OU, but it didn’t help as Sooners backers dropped the green for the fourth time in five trips to the floor. Junior center Jamuni McNeace turned an ankle in Saturday’s tilt and is questionable tonight.

Series History, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

Nearing the 100th anniversary of the rivalry that began in 1920 when the schools competed in the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the 213th meeting finds Kansas with a 146-66 after winning the last four and 15 of the last 17. Both of Oklahoma’s recent wins came in the last nine meetings, each game taking place in Norman. The Sooners covered both matchups a year ago as double-digit underdogs, and both battles stayed ‘under’ the totals.

Both teams take a break from the conference slate after this one to participate in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, Oklahoma heading to Alabama this weekend while Kansas hosts Texas A&M. With 10-straight ‘under’ winners on my free college basketball picks, I’ll go that way again.
