There is no football this weekend (Pro Bowl doesn’t count) and the college basketball gods have provided us with a massive betting card to get us over the hump. Our expert capper, Mark Lathrop, checks out the best totals value he sees on the board.

2015-16 NCAAB Record: 19-16-2, +1.40 Units

San Diego Toreros vs Portland Pilots

Portland’s leading scorer, Alec Wintering, tore his ACL last week and is not expected to play again this season. That’s just the kind of information out of a mid-major conference that could slip under the radar. This total looks temptingly low; however, with Wintering out and the Toreros sporting the 224th ranked offense in the country this should be a plodding affair. The Under is 4-1 in San Diego’s last five games, and 9-3 in Portland’s last 12. One of these teams won’t break 60 on Saturday night so take the Under 131.5.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Kentucky Wildcats

For a matchup between two of the top teams in the country that has serious seeding implications for the tournament this total is just too high. Kansas has played to five Unders in a row coming into this game, and this matchup has played Under the listed total the last five times it was played in Kentucky. Kansas also has a tendency to tighten up on defense after a straight up loss, which is the case in this situation. Actually, it is the case for both teams – an even better indication that each team will be grinding out possessions and trying to increase their discipline on the floor. Take the Under here as one team could break 80, but likely not both.

Citadel Bulldogs vs Mercer Bears

Citadel likes to run, a lot, which is why their totals are always listed on the higher end of the range for college basketball. But for a game to go over those totals they need to have a willing dance partner to run up and down the court. I’m not figuring that to be the Mercer Bears, who shoot a 187th ranked 44.3% from the field and average 70 points per game. These teams played to just a 140-point total last year, and I don’t like the prospect of trusting Citadel to be able to push the pace to reach this total on the road.

Texas A&M Aggies vs West Virginia Mountaineers

These two teams haven’t met since the fall of 2009, and it looks like the Aggies will be running up against a buzz saw in this spot. The Mountaineers rank 21st in scoring in college basketball and shoot a stellar 47.9% from the floor. Their full court press will be on full display on Saturday versus the Aggies, a team that has struggled with turnovers of late. Turnovers will equal easy points for West Virginia in transition with little time off the clock. The Over is 7-1-1 in West Virginia’s last 9, and 3-1-1 in the Aggies’ last five road games. Look for West Virginia’s 88.1 points per game average at home to come into play here and take Over 143 at BookMaker.
