Quarterfinals are upon us in three conference tournaments, starting in the ACC where the Virginia Cavaliers have a noon college basketball odds showdown with the Florida State Seminoles.

(9) Florida State vs. (1) Virginia - ACC Quarterfinals
Day 3 in Greensboro finds the top seed in the ACC Tournament finally taking the floor as the Virginia Cavaliers meet up with the Florida State Seminoles. The noon (ET) collision on ESPN currently finds the Cavaliers favored by 12½, and the first total we're catching on the NCAA Basketball odds board is 116.

We certainly weren't expecting Florida State (17-15 straight up, 17-12 against the spread) to put up 76 points yesterday in their matchup with the Clemson Tigers, but they did. That's about 11 points above the Seminoles' average in conference games, the extra scoring easily traced to their best shooting performance against any ACC opponent this season (24-44, 54.5%).

Xavier Rathan-Mayes led FSU with 30 points while Montay Brandon chipped in 17 to help hold off a late Clemson charge. The downside to all those points were the 17 turnovers committed by the Seminoles, something that has troubled Leonard Hamilton's troops throughout the conference campaign.

Sloppy play like that will be fatal against a Virginia (28-2 SU, 15-12-1 ATS) squad that ranks first in the ACC allowing only 51.6 PPG, just a little more than the Cavaliers' 50.3 PPG overall that also ranks first in the country.

The clubs met once during the regular season, Virginia winning the February 22 contest in Charlottesville, 51-41. The Cavaliers suffered an off-night from beyond the arc and the free throw line to fall short of the 15 point closing spread, snapping a string of 3-straight winning tickets in the series for Virginia backers.

The 'under' is always tempting when the Cavaliers take the floor, but I'm going to get behind Tony Bennett's bunch instead with a free NCAA Basketball pick on the Wahoos.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Virginia -12.5

(5) West Virginia vs. (4) Baylor - Big 12 Quarterfinals
From Greensboro to Kansas City we go for a look at the Big 12 Tournament where we've already seen one mild upset with TCU taking out Kansas State on Wednesday. The Horned Frogs now move on to play Kansas, and the winner of that matchup will get the victor in today's battle between the West Virginia Mountaineers and Baylor Bears.

The Bears and Mountaineers tip things at 12:30 PM (ET) on ESPN2, Baylor presently giving up 3-3½ with 132½ listed for the scoreboard barrier.

West Virginia (23-8 SU, 17-12 ATS) might have to play this one without leading scorer Juwan Staten. The senior guard missed the final three games of the regular season with a balky knee, and is listed as doubtful for Thursday.

That certainly doesn't help matters going against a Baylor (23-8 SU, 14-11 ATS) squad that took out WVU twice already. The Bears also covered both meetings, and I'm expecting them to go 3-for-3 against the Mountaineers with the victory today.

(6) Xavier vs. (3) Butler - Big East Quarterfinals
This is a game I've been looking forward to since the conference brackets first started to fill in last weekend. Both the Xavier Musketeers and Butler Bulldogs appear to be safely in the Field of 68 for the NCAA Tournament next week, but each would like to pad their resumes with a dubya in the 9:30 PM (ET) tip at Madison Square Garden where FOX Sports 1 will be on hand for the telecast.

A quick glance of SBR's live college basketball odds shows Butler drawing small chalk in the 1½-2 point range, 132½ the number totals bettors are faced with making a decision.

The teams split their regular season get-togethers, Xavier (19-12 SU, 13-16-1 ATS) coasting to a 73-56 decision in Cincinnati as a 5 point favorite about three weeks ago after Butler (22-9 SU, 17-12 ATS) had registered an 88-76 victory laying 2½ in Indianapolis in early-January. I love the job Chris Holtmann did with the Bulldogs this year and will be pulling for Butler, but my crystal ball is forecasting a win for the Musketeers instead.
