It's pretty much a given that if the nation is going to get to see LSU star freshman in the NCAA Tournament, it will have to be this March before the young star bolts for a big payday in the NBA. Problem is, the Tigers are having trouble putting things together over a long span, something they will need to do to get an invite to the dance.

A good start would be a convincing all-around win on the road Tuesday at the Auburn Tigers. The 7 PM (ET) matchup will be carried by the SEC Network, and the morning line finds quite a range with LSU -6½ at 5Dimes to -7½ at Pinnacle and 158 for the consensus total.

It has been just shy of 104 years since these two schools first met on the hardwood, LSU building an 84-66 lead in the double-Tiger rivalry. Tuesday's tangle is the only scheduled meeting between the teams, the third time in four seasons they've only been matched up one time in the regular season.

Auburn and LSU got to see plenty of each other during the 2014-15 campaign, however, colliding three times along the way. The first two meetings took place during the regular season, the visitors leaving with the victory both times. Auburn then made an unexpected run to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament, dispatching the Bayou Bengals by a 73-70 score in overtime as a 10 point underdog on the NCAA basketball odds along the way.

The win for LSU in Auburn last February was its first since 2011. Taking Auburn on the spread has been a winner 11 of the last 12 get-togethers; the 'under' has cashed the last six games played at Auburn Arena.

Tigers Fall Short Against No. 1 Oklahoma
Now that Texas A&M has fallen from the ranks of undefeated in SEC play with a loss at Arkansas last week, the conference race is back to being wide open. Three teams sit a game behind the Aggies in the chase, including Louisiana State (13-8 straight up, 6-13 against the spread) along with Kentucky and a surprising South Carolina squad.

Johnny Jones' troops just about had a big-time resume builder last Saturday at home against Oklahoma, but couldn't maintain a big lead against Buddy Hield and the Sooners in a 77-75 loss. The Tigers closed as 3 point underdogs at home against the nation's top-ranked team and built a 14-point lead about five minutes into the second half before Hield led the OU rally, the Sooners star finishing with 32.

Simmons also enjoyed a rather typical day at the office as well, netting 14 on the offensive end and grabbing nine boards to go with five assists. Problem was, his turnover count was also high with five giveaways. The 6-10 Canadian has 63 turnovers for the season, 3.0 per game, and had trouble getting open late in Saturday's game which frustrated the 19 year old.

War Eagles Enduring Second 3-Game Skid Of Season
Winless in four conference road games, Auburn (9-11 SU, 8-11 ATS) can at least point to a perfect 3-0 SEC home record that includes a rather stunning 75-70 upset of Kentucky a little more than two weeks ago. The Tigers could never really build on that, however, stinking things up in road losses at Florida and Ole Miss before hosting Oklahoma State in a Big 12/SEC Challenge last Saturday.

Bruce Pearl's charges couldn't buy a bucket against the Cowboys, shooting just 29% (18-62) in the 74-63 setback as 2 point home 'dogs. The defeat gave the Auburn its second 3-game losing streak since the conference season started, each of those costing bettors.

It's tough to get behind LSU with its 1-7 ATS record away from Baton Rouge, so I'm on the low side of the total for my free NCAA basketball pick.
