Our veteran college basketball handicapping professional Ross Benjamin shares his top 3 underdog wagers on Tuesday’s card. Go inside to read specifically why he’s made these NCAA predictions.

Clemson At Virginia Tech

This point spread makes absolutely no sense to me. Granted, Virginia Tech sustained a huge blow when its lost Chris Clarke (11.4 PPG/7.3 RPG) to a season ending knee injury last week. However, Clarke had scored in double figures just once in his last 6 games played and averaged only 5.3 rebounds per contest during that stretch.

Virginia Tech is 5-1 in ACC home games this season. Conversely, Clemson has gone a dismal 3-10 during its last 13 games and is 1-6 on the road against ACC opponents. So why is Virginia Tech just a mere 2.0-point favorite? If it smells and looks like a trap, then it’s a trap. I’m going with the road team in this matchup for one of my Tuesday college basketball picks.

South Carolina At No. 13 Florida

If this game was scheduled 2 weeks ago, NCAA basketball betting odds would’ve displayed Florida as a 4.5 to 5.0-point opening line favorite instead of 9.5. However, South Carolina is just 2-3 straight up during its previous 5 games, failed to cover on each of those occasions and hence the large number. Nevertheless, the Gamecocks are a stellar 5-2 SU & ATS in conference road games and already defeated Florida by 4 at home. As a matter of fact, the Cocks held the Gators to a miserable 29% shooting in that win.

I chose Florida as one of my Final Four predictions just last week, and my mind hasn’t changed in that regard. Nonetheless, I don’t like the Gators to cover this hefty number against a quality opponent like South Carolina. The Gators are 6-1 in conference home games this season but have only gone 3-4 ATS during those contests.

George Mason At Dayton

This pick isn’t about poking holes in an extremely impressive Dayton Flyers resume. I just firmly believe that George Mason is grossly undervalued in this spot. George Mason has gone a terrific 7-1 SU & ATS as a road underdog this season. In fact, 2 of those 7 wins came as a double-digit underdog. Furthermore, the Patriots are 4-1 straight up and 5-0 ATS during their previous 5 games overall. During that most recent stretch, they converted on a superb 49.8% of their field-goal attempts and amassed a massive +14 rebound per game differential. George Mason has many of the ingredients I look for in assessing underdog betting value, and especially so when considering this sizable point spread.
