He might not have been the most successful head coach at the professional level, but year after year, John Calipari brings the best freshman that the NBA can buy and this season is no different. The Wildcats are currently ranked #6 in the nation and are a threat to win it all. Tonight, they must keep their guard up as the Texas A&M Aggies are far from being a pushover.

Texas A&M Aggies (8-4) vs #6 Kentucky Wildcats (12-1)

Master of the One and Done

Kentucky head coach, John Calipari, is the master of recruiting as he gets top high school level talent to come and play at Kentucky. He’s a recruiting machine that spits out top NBA prospects every single year as players know what they’re in for when they sign to play at Kentucky. This season is no different as Malik Monk and De’Aaron Fox is two more freshman that are “NBA-Ready” and are having outstanding freshman seasons.

Top of the Food Chain

Players see the kind of success that Karl Anthony-Towns has been having at the pro level and are hoping to be the next in line. Malik Monk and the De’Aaron Fox certainly “have the jump” on the rest as this duo is nearly unstoppable. Monk is an offensive machine, leading Kentucky at 22.4 points per game while shooting over 50% from the field, over 40% from 3-point range, and also shooting 84.6% from the free throw line. He’s coming off of a 34 point performance against Ole Miss and a 47 point outburst against North Carolina. Both games resulted in victories and these numbers speak for themselves. Texas A&M won’t be able to stop Monk in this spot, they can only hope to contain him and that doesn’t seem likely.

As for De’Aaron Fox, he compliments Monk in the backcourt as this is a player that can do it all. Fox isn’t an efficient shooter but can score the timely bucket, play outstanding defense, freshman project the glass, and make other players better with his ability to share the basketball. For the season, he’s averaging 15.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 5 rebounds per game. It should be a long night for the Aggies as freshmen are just a fraction of UK’s talent-pool.

As a team, Kentucky is averaging 94 points, 43 rebounds, and 19 assists per game; quite impressive numbers! What can’t be overlooked is the fact that 3 of Texas A&M’s losses were against top 25 Pac-12 teams by a combined 12 points. This team hasn’t had an easy schedule and has been competitive. That said, look for Kentucky to outclass Texas A&M.
