An Absolute Stunner
The NCAA Tournament has seen its share of upsets thus far, but none more stunning than Mercer knocking off Duke on Friday in the Blue Devils own backyard. The Bears pulled off the monumental shocker as a 13.0 point underdog in a 78-71 defeat of one of the most power college basketball programs in the country. It was Mercer’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1985. This is a veteran Mercer team that starts 5 seniors, and their poise down the stretch in the win over Duke was very apparent. The Bears shot a sizzling 56% from the field, and had four players score in double figures. They were also extremely efficient from the foul line down the stretch when Duke was intentionally fouling in an attempt to extend the game. Altogether the Bears were 23-28 (82%) from the charity stripe. They also held a very potent offensive team from Duke to a paltry 35% shooting from the field.

Impressive Showing from the Vols
Tennessee comes off a dominating 86-67 win over the #6 seed Massachusetts Minutemen on Friday. The Volunteers started quickly in this contest by jumping out to a huge lead and never let Massachusetts back into the game. Tennessee held a 41-22 lead at the half, and then coasted the rest of the way. The Volunteers shot a sizzling 54% from the field despite just going 2-14 from beyond the 3-point line. They also went a superb 24-31 (77%) from the free throw line.
