For Friday’s NCAA action in basketball we’re going look at the rivalry between Louisville and Kentucky, and some league play when West Virginia travels to take on Oklahoma State.  Will the favorites dominate or will the underdogs stay within the number?

After suffering a tough loss to UCLA, Kentucky will try to bounce back versus a very good Louisville team at home. Oddsmakers have come out making them a solid favorite in this spot but for my NCAA pick I’m going to back Louisville plus the points. Currently the Cardinals are getting six points and I think that is a bit too much for a very talented team that plays good defense. On the season Louisville ranks seventh in the country in opponent shooting efficiency and currently they are allowing teams to shoot just 37.6% from the floor which ranks 11th in the nation. On the other side of the ball they have solid offensive statistics and I imagine this game will go down to the wire. Kentucky, as always, is extremely talented but I don’t like how they matchup in this spot. Although their statistics are good on both sides the ball they are allowing teams to get up an alarming amount of attempts allowing 62.4 per game from their opponents. This is not a good statistic against a Louisville team that is loaded, and despite not having Rick Pitino, will be very difficult to beat in the ACC.

After losing their first game of the year against Texas A&M West Virginia has been on a solid winning streak. They have some impressive wins, like against Virginia at home, but on the road they haven’t been as sharp with their only true road game being a single digit win at Pittsburgh. Oklahoma State is no joke despite the fact Bob Underwood headed to Illinois, this team is talented and plays well on both ends of the floor. They don’t shoot from distance particularly well but they have been pushing a good pace and they are averaging 28 field goals made per game which is decent. On the other side of the ball is where I like them today considering they rank in the very top part of the country in most defensive statistics highlighted by allowing opponents to shoot just 30.8% from beyond the arc. With them being at home I think will be the difference tonight and I will gladly take the small number as I think they have a chance to win this game straight up.
