Gonzaga and St. Mary meet for the West Coast Conference Title. St. Mary’s holds the No. 1 seed and Gonzaga is the No. 2; get your NCAA Basketball pick for this game.

With a dearth of notable victories on their schedule and a 25-7 SU record, most bracketologists, including Joe Lunardi of ESPN, have the Zags on the wrong side of the Bubble making tonight's victory a necessity, if they hope to make their annual appearance in the post-season party.

Gonzaga Sneak Peek
The Zags are far from the team of recent seasons; the loss of their veteran guard tandem of Pangos and Bell from last season created a huge void in the backcourt, which has yet to be filled by McClellan and Perkins (though, they did combine for 32 points in last night’s 88-84 win and cover vs. BYU). Nonetheless, with key big man Karnowski (back) missing since December, the workload has fallen to Sabonis and Wiltjer. In last night’s victory, they had another pair of sterling performances, combining for 47 points and 22 rebounds. They may need all that and more against a fundamentally-sound and very steady St. Mary’s team.

Saint Mary Preview
The Saint Mary’s story is truly astounding once again this season;15th year HC Randy Bennett has once again made his annual peregrination to the land down under. He returned with what could have been a band of misfits, as he looked to guide a Gaels’ team with no returning starters to their perennial position atop the WCC. They broke from the gate at 13-1 SU and an incredible 12-0 ATS, in which they covered the number by 139 points.

Eventually, the line caught up with them as they stumbled to a mid-season slide of 1-9 ATS. But, beginning with their February 20th victory at Gonzaga by a score of 63-58, the Gaels enter tonight on a 4-1 ATS run and a 7-game winning streak. Key to the Gaels’ success is a strong fundamental stat line that sees them shooting 51% from the field, 41% from the arc with a 17/10 assist /TO ratio, combined with a defense that allows just 60 PPG and a +6.2 rebound margin, this is a seriously, strong fundamental team.

With a pair of victories over the Zags already this season and Gonzaga needing this victory for NCAA inclusion, it is easy to knee-jerk to the Zags in this one. But, often times with need you bleed!  Let’s go with the “no-names” from down under and the exquisite fundamental coaching of Randy Bennett. I invite you to put the NCAA basketball odds board in your favor and join me in my NCAA basketball picks on St. Mary’s tonight.
