Alabama vs. Mississippi 9:00PM ET
When the Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Oxford, Mississippi in quest of a little cross-sport revenge for an Alabama football team, whose only defeat came to these Ole Miss Rebels. First year Alabama HC Avery Johnson, following a highly decorated NBA career, is bringing his passion for the game to Tuscaloosa. In Oxford, the Rebels, after a combined 40 wins the last 2 seasons and a NCAA Round 2 appearance, have yet to show their mettle.

Betting Preview
Sure there has been a rivalry win against regional foe Memphis (85-79) in mid-December, but there has also been a loss to lower-tiered A10 entry, George Mason, as well as in their 2 true step-up games by a count of (75-63) to Seton Hall and by (83-61) at Kentucky on Saturday (a team we can all agree is a major notch below the Title contender of recent seasons). That leaves the Rebels with the once strong home boards of the Tad Smith Coliseum, where they went just 9-7 SU last year. With mediocre stats across the board, there is not that much to fear in the Rebels, who are shooting just 30% from behind the arc.

An entirely different story is being crafted by Avery Johnson in Tuscaloosa. After Anthony Grant had worn out his welcome with only 32 victories the previous 2 seasons, Avery Johnson was hired to bring his NBA expertise to the Crimson Tide. November losses to Dayton (80-48) and Xavier (64-45)brought fear to the hearts of the Alabama faithful. Since that time, Johnson has sparked a defensive resurgence, reeling off 8 consecutive victories, among them quality wins vs. Wichita St., Notre Dame, Clemson and Oregon. That's 4-0 SU ATS, all as underdog and all away from Tuscaloosa! Credit a defense which has not allowed more than 63 points in any of those games. And, in those 8 contests, has allowed just 57 PPG.

Final Analysis
With that type of defensive intensity, it will be no surprise to this bureau, if the Alabama players avenge their (82-74) home court loss last year and gain their cross-sport revenge in the process. No fear of the once strong home boards of Tad Smith, where they Rebels enter tonight on a 2+ year run of 11-20 ATS as home favorite. Look for Johnson to find a way to shut down the Rebels’ lone scoring threat, Stefan Moody, and come away with this outright upset victory. I invite you to put the NCAA basketball odds in your favor and join me with my NCAA basketball pick on Alabama this evening.
