Mercer vs. Florida Gulf Coast
I understand this isn't the game that will have eyeballs glued to the TV on Sunday afternoon but it is an opportunity to add a few bucks to our bankroll in our college basketball picks. These smaller games oftentimes have value because the oddsmakers realize that the major action will be both on the nationally televised games and the big ranked teams poised to dance deep into March Madness.
However, Florida Gulf Coast is in an ideal spot to claim their second consecutive Atlantic Sun title. Yes, there is such a division and if you reside down south it might actually be a big deal to you. It certainly isn't to me but that doesn't mean I will ignore an opportunity to pad my wallet. The Eagles have won six of their last seven games with their latest being a 69-64 gutsy win over East Tennessee State.
Meanwhile Mercer has won four of their last five but failed to get the cover as 7 ½ point home chalk in college basketball odds against USC Upstate when they squeaked by with a 78-75 victory. Though both these teams have identical conference records of 14-4, Florida Gulf Coast is virtually invincible at home. They boast a 15-1 straight up mark when playing in front of the fan friendlies and in the few lined games at home they are 3-1 ATS. Mercer is a pedestrian 8-7 straight up on the highway this season and 0-2 ATS in the only road tilts that were lined.
Though Mercer may sport a more talented offensive unit than FGC, they don't have the same skills defensively and are certainly not up to stealing the biggest game of the year on a court that nobody, save Iona, has been successful in doing so. I look for a repeat of their February 21st clash when host Florida Gulf Coast waxed the Bears of Mercer 75-61 as 2-point home pups in NCAM odds.
College Basketball Picks: Florida Gulf Coast - 1 ½
LaSalle vs. St. Josephs
St. Joe's is rolling here boys. They manhandled LaSalle in their last meeting on February 15th when the Hawks coasted to a 75-64 win as 1 ½ point road dogs in college basketball odds. The Explorers have been limping down the stretch, dropping six of their last eight straight up and ATS while the Hawks of St. Josephs reeled off six straight victories until their last game when they were edged 76-71 as 4-point road pups by George Washington.
LaSalle is miserable from the field (ranked 318th) while St. Josephs (ranked 37th) is actually quite good. St. Joe's should be able to jump in front and never look back. They are gunning for a conference crown this season and the Explorers are just a speed bump in the road.
College Basketball Picks: St. Joe's -8
Boston College vs. NC State
Sorry Eagles but the Wolfpack awaits and they are smelling blood. NC State destroyed BC a few weeks ago 82-64 as 10-point favorites in college basketball odds and will do so again here tonight. The Eagles have lost eight of their last 10 and dropped their most recent game 74-70 to Florida State at Chestnut Hill.
Meanwhile NC State upset Pittsburgh on the road in their most recent outing when they came away with a 74-67 stunner as 11-point road dogs. It was a huge win for a team that needed a boost and demonstrated that the Wolfpack has plenty of bite when they put it all together. Look for them to do so again this evening.
