For Friday’s NCAA basketball matchups we are to take a look at some key league play in the MAAC and Pac 12. Defensive-minded St. Peter’s travels to take on up-tempo Iona, and then rivalries meet in Oregon with the Ducks taking on the Beavers at Oregon State. Do the underdogs have a chance to pull off a couple of upsets?

Oddsmakers have come out making Iona a 6.5 favorite in this spot but for my NCAA pick, I will take St. Peter’s plus the points. Both teams have been up and down this year and Iona has not had many opportunities to play at home with just two games so far this year, winning both. Looking at the matchup over the past several seasons these teams have played some pretty tight contests although Iona has won the last five in a row. The last time St. Peter’s came to visit was a tight contest with about the same line as Iona escaped with a 69-66 victory. I see a similar game occurring in this matchup as we start to break down the statistics. St. Peter’s has been extremely good on the defensive side of the ball allowing just 21.8 field goals made per game, and opponents shooting just 30.1% from distance ranking them 17th and 24th in the country respectively. Iona comes in with some offensive weapons but defensively they have been pretty poor allowing opponents to score 27.9 field goals per game which ranks them in the bottom third of the country. Although Iona should win considering they are at home expect St. Peter’s to take this game to the wire.

Oregon vs Oregon State

Free NCAAB Pick: Oregon State +2.5Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

The last two times these teams have met up Oregon has absolutely smashed Oregon State winning by over 20 points in both games last year. However, this is a new season and this should be a tough matchup for Oregon which is why oddsmakers have made them a small 2.5 favorite. On the season Oregon State has played some really good defense which should help them tonight against an Oregon team that ranks 35th in the country in shooting efficiency. On the other side of the ball Oregon State has been efficient themselves and currently are shooting 47.7% from the floor along with 56.3% from the interior extended which ranks them 27th in the country. Oregon seems to be a little bit down this year compared to seasons past so this is a good opportunity for the Beavers to finally beat their rival in which they’ve only done once in the last eight meetings. It looks like this number is off, but it really isn’, and don’t be surprised if Oregon state pulls the upset.
