In the surprisingly competitive Atlantic 10 conference, Rhode Island finished third with a 13-5 conference record, earning themselves a bye in the first round of their conference tournament. I believe that situation is the key to this March Madness pick.

 St. Bonaventure vs. Rhode Island

Rhode Island is riding a 5-0 SU winning streak coming into the A-10 conference tournament, and I like that to continue in this spot. They played the Bonnies once already this year at home, winning by 12 and covering their 7-point home chalk. That game went well under the listed total as Rhode Island held St. Bonaventure to just 29.5% shooting from the floor. The Rams were the aggressors all night, forcing the Bonnies to pick up 23 fouls versus their 18. Rhode Island also was able to spread the ball around on offense, picking up 18 assists on the night, while the Bonnies finished the game with just 10.

In this game, the Rams will have had 5 days of rest, while St. Bonaventure is coming off a win last night against UMass. For a team that excels on the defensive side of the ball, extra rest should create a mismatch late in the game as the Bonnies struggle to match intensity for a full 40 minutes. The only reason the last game between these teams wasn’t a blowout was because of the heroics of Bonnies’ guard, Jaylen Adams, who put up 25 points. Rhode Island will have a game plan for him today, so I am taking the Rams -4 at Pinnacle as one of my Friday night college basketball picks.
