Speaking of great defenses, the South Carolina Gamecocks possess one of the best defenses in the nation, allowing just 60.8 points per game. While they're not in the category of UCLA where offense is concerned, the Gamecocks have managed to win low scoring games, thus, enabling them to crack the AP Top 25. Tonight, the Gamecocks go on the road in a game that they should win against a 9-11 LSU Tigers squad.

#19 South Carolina Gamecocks vs LSU Tigers This Isn't Football

The LSU Tigers are finding this out very quickly as their school's basketball team isn't finding the same success in the SEC Conference that their football team has.

This LSU basketball squad has won just 1 inter-conference game and could sure use the services of former players Chris Jackson and Shaquille O'Neal.  All joking aside, this will be an uphill climb for the Tigers and they will need help from leading scorer Antonio Blakeney (16.4 points,5.3 rebounds) as the sophomore guard is coming off of a strong 23 point performance in a 77-64 loss to Texas Tech. A win hear wouldn't change the Tigers season around, but it would be a "feel good" victory that might inspire this squad which has found no success in inter-conference play.

With wins over Michigan, Syracuse, and Florida, the one common theme for the Gamecocks is that they were low scoring games due in part to their ferocious defense. In their last 8 games, the Gamecocks have held their opponents to under 70 points on 7 separate with the exception of a disappointing loss to Kentucky. They're are no Malik Monk's or DeA'aron Fox's on this LSU team. South Carolina should be very effective tonight.

Sindarius Thornwell

The 6 foot 5,211 pound Thornwell has never met a shot that he didn't like, but he's been relatively successful and possesses great size for a guard, which enables him to get down in the trenches with the bigger sized players and this is a player that can do it all.

This two-way player is averaging 19.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. While Thornwell is a long way away from reaching the heights as San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard, he's the next best thing to Leonard on this Gamecocks squad and the Tigers will find this out very quickly tonight.

In his last 3 games, Thornwell is averaging 24 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He's been outstanding along with this improving Gamecocks squad. LSU doesn't have the talent or confidence to compete with South Carolina.
