Don't sleep on the road team in Northern Kentucky as they travel to take on Memphis. The Line opened as a PK, but has since moved into the -1 to -1.5 range.

Northern Kentucky at Memphis

Memphis has started out the season decently well going 2-1 so far beating up on some smaller conference teams. Odds makers have come out making them a -1 favorite, but for my NCAA pick I’m going to back Northern Kentucky to win this game straight up. Simply put this is not a very good Memphis team and they will struggle all season most likely finishing in the bottom of the conference. Today they face a Northern Kentucky team that is one of the best small schools in the country.

The Tigers have started the year decently well after losing to Alabama by 12 they took care of business beating Arkansas Little Rock in New Orleans by double digits each. This will be a completely different monster today though in Northern Kentucky and I don’t like the way Memphis has come out shooting the ball or playing defense. Currently the Tigers are shooting just 41.4% from the floor and a miserable 27.1% from distance. On the other side of the ball they have been a little bit better allowing opponents to shoot 43.7% so far, but this is a polished Northern Kentucky team that can score and should give Memphis a lot of trouble tonight.

This a good spot for Northern Kentucky to get back on the winning track after losing a tough game to a good mid-major in Vermont. What really has me liking them tonight is the fact that they are the better basketball team, and despite their most recent loss prior to that they beat a good Iona team 85-72 and currently sit at 4-1. From a team that made NCAA tournament last year in their first year as a Division I school, and they should be well fired up to face a team from a bigger conference. Statistically, like Memphis, they haven’t been shooting from beyond the arc very well at just 28.7%. However, from the interior extended they been extremely solid shooting 62.6% on their two point shots, and currently they sit at 47.3% overall ranking them 11th and 84th in the country respectively. Defensively their statistics are much better than Memphis as well as they have allowed opponents to shoot just 42.6% from the floor which is very respectable. The only reason Memphis is the favorite in this game is because they are at home, but Northern Kentucky is the better team.
