Tap into these two SEC showdowns Tuesday night for some profitable college basketball betting action: South Carolina at Alabama, and No. 24 Tennessee at Vanderbilt. Get your picks, previews, and predictions here.

South Carolina at Alabama (-5.5)

Alabama (9-6 SU, 6-7 ATS) got the better of Georgia in a thrilling College Football Playoff Championship game Monday night, but let’s not forget what happened between those two on the hardwood Saturday: the Bulldogs romped 65-46. The Crimson Tide shot a season-low 29.8 percent from the floor in the loss.

The law of averages suggests Alabama should bounce back with a better scoring performance tonight. Carful here. Three times it has been held to less than 44 percent from the floor this season, failing to put up more than the opposing defense allows next time out in each. South Carolina (10-5 SU, 6-7 ATS) surrenders just 64.9 points per game.

The Gamecocks are coming off a stellar defensive performance, holding Vanderbilt to 35.2 percent from the floor in a 71-60 win on Saturday. Head coach Frank Martin’s bunch is improving its communication, which is vital in successfully executing his ball-denial pressure and trapping schemes.

South Carolina is particularly good around the rim, defending the paint and owning the boards. Its 45.5 opponent 2-point field goal percentage ranks 53rd nationally. Moreover, Martin’s men sit seventh in defensive rebounding percentage (79.9) and own a +9.3 edge over foes in gathering up boards on the road. There are no easy put-back opportunities against the Gamecocks. This is bad news for Bama’s offense, which relies on 2-pointers for 52.7 of its production.

The Gamecocks' offense will likely struggle as well. In three underdog efforts, they average 59.0 points on 37.1 percent shooting. The ‘under’ is 3-0 overall, a 130.3 final score staying 12.3 points south of a 142.7 game total on average. This meeting will be a race to 70, and it would not shock to see either fail to reach the mark. Pick ‘under’ 144.5 for your best bet.

No. 24 Tennessee (-2.5) at Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt (6-9 SU, 1-11 ATS) has covered one spread all season, playing 5.7 points below an average -0.9 line. Only UNCW has as few among Division I programs hitting the board at least 10 times this season. The market is slowly catching up, the Commodores staying within 3 points of the number in three of their last four contests.

Nonetheless, the line (+2.5) still appears to be a bit bullish here. Home-court advantage can spark a fire under any underachieving team, but Tennessee (10-4 SU, 7-5 ATS) is the better squad and has played a tougher schedule. The Volunteers own the fourth-hardest strength of schedule in the country according to KenPom, Vandy ranks 10th, respectively.

The Commodores just do not possess the offensive consistency to top a ranked opponent. Their 40.8 field-goal percentage is the lowest Tennessee has faced all season, When tipping off an underdog, Vandy’s execution slips to 36.7 percent. It averages 64.7 points per game under these conditions, shooting better than 42 percent once (USC) out of six contests.

The Volunteers are just 1-5 SU and ATS as road chalk all-time under head coach Rick Barnes, but that number is turned around tonight. Lay the 2.5 points in this rivalry game that will come down to the wire.
