Friday’s limited college basketball schedule includes rematches with Kent State playing at Ball State, and Detroit visiting Oakland. Can the road underdogs hang within the number?

Kent State took care of business a few weeks back, beating Ball State 88-80 in overtime. They were the slight underdog in that matchup, and on the college basketball odds board for the rematch they are in the same position at a +5.5. In the first meeting we saw a pretty even matchup, so with my NCAAB picks in this game I will take Kent State plus the points, as I like how they match up overall. Although statistically Kent State has not been particularly good across the board, neither has Ball State. The Cardinals are allowing opponents to shoot more than 43 percent and almost 37 percent from distance. As well, Ball State is shooting just 44 percent from the floor and ranks outside the top half of all NCAA teams in shooting efficiency. The tempo of this game should be pretty fast and there isn’t one statistic I can point to in which one team is significantly better than the other. Both teams have won three of their last six games. At the end of the day, this looks like another game that could go to the buzzer.

With these teams meeting for the second time this year, Detroit was made a big +14 underdog on the college basketball odds board. I will take the visiting Titans plus the points in my NCAAB picks, as I think this game is going to be very fast-paced and both teams thrive in this type of dynamic. Just a few weeks ago Oakland beat Detroit 92-86, with both teams shooting very well and pushing a lot of tempo:

Surprisingly, although Oakland was the road team, they got to the line 15 more times than Detroit and still they barely pulled out the win. In that game Oakland dominated the first half but Detroit made quite the run, outscoring the Golden Grizzlies 57-42 in the second half. Statistically Oakland is the better team across the board, but they have been susceptible defensively and allow opponents 29.2 field goals made per game, which ranks 328th in the country. I think this is just too many points in what should be an up-and-down affair.
