Head Coach Dan Hurley and his Rhode Island Rams started off the season as an AP Top 25 contender. 21 games later, the Rams are a somewhat lackluster 14-7 and they need to win as many games as possible as they can't count on winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament to make the "Big Dance". Tonight the Rams are an actual underdog on the road in a very winnable game against Davidson. Are the Rams good value in this spot?

Rhode Island vs Davidson

The Davidson Wildcats are on a modest run of their own, winning 3 consecutive games; all by double-figures. Granted, these teams aren't the caliber of a Kentucky, but this provides momentum for Davidson and a win over Rhode Island would look quite nice on their resume as they also can't afford to lose a game.

Where Rhode Island is concerned, this is a team with a quality win over the Cincinnati Bearcats and have also won their last 2 games, but their conference doesn't enable them to pick up quality wins, therefore, they need to go on a major run as we hit the home stretch of the NCAA Basketball Regular Season.

E.C. Matthews and Hassan Martin

For Rhode Island to find success as the slight road dogs, these two players must play at peak performance and both players are quite capable of having huge games.

Where E.C. Matthews is concerned, he's leading the team at 15 points and 4 rebounds per game. Matthews has tailed off a bit, especially in his last 2 games in which he's managed 10.5 points on 5 of 18 shooting from the field. Coach Hurley was looking for a monster season out of his junior guard, but will settle for this if it equates to wins.

Where Hassan Martin is concerned, he doesn't want his senior season to end early and this is a player that could find a spot at the next level or possibly overseas. For now, Martin (14.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 blocks) is getting hot at the right time as he's averaging 21.5 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks in his last 2 games. Martin is shooting 19 of 26 from the field and is a superb two-way player the presents problems for opposing offenses.

Even though Jack Gibbs (21.9 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds) and Peyton Aldridge 21.6 points, 7.6 rebounds) should get their points as Aldridge has been especially hot as of late, this is a very top heavy team and I look for Rhode Island to squeak out a win in a very big spot.
